The most famous in Christian religion brothers Cain and Abel are familiar to every person. Their story gave me a lot to think about while reading the bible. About the lesson they taught humanity, how fratricide affected the fate of their descendants. In this article I will talk about the story of the two brothers and its different interpretations.

There is probably no person who has not read or heard about this biblical story. Just in case, I’ll remind you what happened between the two legendary brothers and tell you about the details.

Cain and Abel are two brothers, children of the ancestors of the entire population of the Earth, sons of Eve and Adam. They were born after they ate the forbidden fruit, and God expelled the couple from the Garden of Eden.

The Creator instructed his sinful children to engage in heavy physical labor, to obtain food themselves, and to take care of food. Cain was engaged in agriculture, and Abel grazed cattle in the meadows.

The plot of Cain and Abel describes the legendary fratricide committed on Earth. The planet was still young then, although it had undergone many changes and felt all the negative power of the first sin of Adam and Eve. The elder brother was the first to be born on this planet, and the younger brother was the first to die on it.

This story is told in the fourth chapter of Genesis.

Why did the murder happen?

The brothers were required to sacrifice the fruits of their labor to God. The younger brother gave these gifts sincerely, with with a pure heart. He did not feel greed and was grateful to the Creator, despite his difficult lot. Therefore, God received him with gratitude and bestowed his favor on him.

The elder brother gave away the fruits of his labors out of obligation. He felt no love for the Creator, and his gifts were rejected. Full of indignation and envy, in a fit of anger Cain killed his younger brother. This act became the first terrible crime to desecrate the earth.

After committing fratricide, Cain tried to cover up the traces of the crime; he did not admit to God what he had done. When asked where Abel had disappeared, he replied that he was not watching or guarding his brother, so he did not have the slightest idea of where he had disappeared.

God hoped to receive a confession and make Cain repent, but he chose to hide his sin and wanted to avoid punishment. For this monstrous offense, the creator cursed the killer, saying that more land will not give him fruit and strength. Cain was banished and doomed to eternal wandering in the land of Nod.

From that moment on, a period of wandering and suffering began for the elder brother, which he was unable to bear. He cried out to God asking that any person he met along the way would kill him.

In response, God commanded that no one could kill Cain, lest he receive seven times more vengeance than he deserved. Therefore, the life of the elder brother continued in torment and suffering.

How did Cain's wanderings end? Here are the main points of history as told in the Bible:

  • Cain gave birth to a son named Enoch and became the founder of his family, as well as the city of the same name.
  • There is no clear information about Cain's wife. In various sources one can see opinions that his wife was his sister, named Avan, or a girl named Sava.
  • The clan of Cain has seven tribes. It ceased to exist after the Great Flood, in which the descendants of the fratricide failed to escape.

It is also indicated that the innocent soul of Abel led a horde of other martyrs who spent their entire lives persecuting members of the elder brother's clan. His soul could not rest until the clan was completely wiped off the face of the earth.

Meaning of brothers' names

Cain's name symbolizes envy in all its forms. Currently, it has become a household word, personifying a person full of evil, meanness, capable of committing a crime against members of his family.

Abel is translated from Hebrew as breath, a powerful positive life energy. Other sources give a translation from the Akkadian language - “son”.

Other interpretations

The story of two brothers became known to modern society through the study of ancient manuscripts. The most famous of them was presumably published in 250 BC and is called the “Dead Sea Scrolls.”

In this and other historical manuscripts, Abel is presented as the first person to become a victim of a brutal murder, a martyr who atoned for the sin of his parents before God. The image of Cain is presented as a monstrous killer, the personification of evil, its first manifestation in the human world.

There is another opinion among researchers: some of them believe that the legend of two brothers came from the Sumerians, who wrote about the conflict between farmers and shepherds. Kabbalah states that the elder brother was not the son of Adam, but the fruit of the love of Eve and the angel Samael. In other sources - the devil's offspring, which was born after Eve's adultery with Satan himself.

Notable Facts

This biblical story did not leave researchers and scientists alone. Therefore, over time, many interpretations and interpretations of the first fratricide appeared.

Here are the most interesting of them:

  1. In biblical stories, the story of Cain and Abel is not the only one in which God gave preference to the youngest of the brothers. This event was repeated at least three times - with David, Joseph and Esau.
  2. This story has become an archetypal example of fratricide, envy and betrayal. Various interpretations can be found in works of art in almost any art form.
  3. In the Middle Ages, there was a legend that the Creator sent his older brother into exile on the Moon, so that from there he would watch earthly life, yearn for it, but would not be able to return. Therefore people, during full moon, can look closely and see the image of an older brother threatening the younger one.

There is another interesting opinion that the sin committed by Cain became the prerequisite for various wars, the cause of which was blood feud. The author of the opinion believes that the reason for the strife is the inequality of people before God and the battle for justice.

CAIN AND ABEL

It was hard for Adam and Eve to part with paradise, but it was even harder for them to get used to work and illness. The animals now no longer obeyed and were afraid of them, and the earth did not always bring them fruits for food.

Soon Adam and Eve had children. They had two sons: Cain and Abel. The eldest, Cain, was engaged in arable farming, and the youngest, Abel, tended the flock.

One day the brothers wanted to bring something as a sacrifice or gift to God. They built two fires, Cain sprinkled grains of grain on the fire, and Abel put a lamb, and both lit their fires.

Abel brought the gift to God with all his soul, with love and prayer, and therefore the smoke from his fire rose in a straight column to Heaven. Cain offered his sacrifice reluctantly and carelessly and did not pray to God at all, and the smoke from his sacrifice spread across the ground. From this it was clear that Abel’s sacrifice was pleasing to God, and Cain’s sacrifice was unpleasant.

Cain became very annoyed, but instead of praying more fervently to God and asking the Lord to accept a sacrifice from him, Cain became jealous of his brother and killed him out of anger. Then the Lord asked him:

- Cain, where is Abel, your brother?

It was God who asked him so that the murderer himself would repent and ask for forgiveness. But Cain did not repent and answered boldly:

“I don’t know, am I my brother’s keeper?”

The Lord said to him:

- No, you killed your brother, and now you won’t find peace anywhere!

Cain's murder of Abel

Cain was frightened and exclaimed:

- Great is my sin! Now the first person I meet will kill me!

But God said:

- No, I will put such a sign on you that no one will kill you, you will live, and your conscience will always torment you!

From then on, Cain could never raise his face to the sky. Gloomy and thoughtful, tormented by shame, he could not find peace for himself anywhere and soon left his family altogether for a distant land.

Adam and Eve cried and grieved greatly when they learned about Abel’s death. This was the first severe grief on earth. Now they regretted paradise even more. If they had obeyed God, they would have lived in paradise, and such a misfortune would not have happened there. God saw their tears and gave them a third son named Seth. He was a kind and gentle boy, and the Lord loved him very much. Cain also had children, but they, like their father, were angry, disrespectful and envious. The children of Cain began to be called children of men, because they thought only about earthly things and did not strive for God. The children of Seth were pious and turned to their Creator all the time, so they were called the sons of God.

It happens that you pray to God inattentively, especially before going to bed. But know that God does not listen to inattentive prayer. If you pray, then do it with all your heart, with love for God, then the Guardian Angel will transfer your prayers to Heaven to God and the Lord will willingly fulfill all your requests.

The first children Cain and Abel made sacrifices. Abel sacrificed a lamb, in which there was sorrow and blood when killed, and Cain sacrificed vegetables, in which there was no sorrow and blood. The Lord accepted Abel’s sacrifice, but did not accept Cain’s sacrifice, and Cain became angry and killed his brother. Why did Cain kill Abel? To answer this question we need to look at anger, where do we get it from?

If we look at the difference between the lives of Cain and Abel, we will see distinctive feature the fact that Abel followed the path of mortifying sinful flesh, O Cain, of cultivating its properties. And this is the opposite of doing the works of the Lord, which are designated as evil deeds and righteous deeds:

(1 John 3:11,12)

To understand the difference between righteous deeds and evil deeds, let us answer the following questions:

  1. How did sin appear in the heart of man?
  2. Why is suffering or baptism by fire necessary?
  3. How do righteous deeds differ from evil deeds?
  4. Why can’t we forget the omnipotence of the Lord?

1. HOW DID SIN APPEAR IN THE HEART OF MAN?

Let's look at the passage Genesis 3:1-21

1 The serpent was more cunning than all the beasts of the field that the Lord God had made. And the serpent said to the woman: Did God truly say: You shall not eat from any tree in the garden?
2 And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat fruit from the trees,
3 Only from the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, God said, “You shall not eat it or touch it, lest you die.”
4 And the serpent said to the woman, No, you will not die,
5 But God knows that in the day that you eat of them, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes and desirable because it gave knowledge; and she took of its fruit and ate; and she gave it also to her husband, and he ate.
8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day; and Adam and his wife hid from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of paradise.
9 And the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
10 He said: I heard Your voice in paradise, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.
11 And he said, Who told you that you were naked? have you not eaten from the tree from which I forbade you to eat?
12 Adam said, “The wife whom You gave me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate.”
13 And the Lord God said to the woman, “Why have you done this?” The woman said: The serpent deceived me, and I ate.
14 And the Lord God said to the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle and above all the beasts of the field; on your belly you will go, and you will eat dust all the days of your life;
15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it will bruise your head, and you will bruise its heel.
16 He said to the woman, “By multiplying I will multiply your sorrow in your pregnancy; in illness you will give birth to children; and your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.
17 And he said unto Adam, Because thou hast listened to the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it; cursed is the ground because of thee; you will eat from it in sorrow all the days of your life;
18 It will bring forth thorns and thistles for you; and you will eat the grass of the field;
19 By the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground from which you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you will return.
20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, for she became the mother of all living.
(Gen.3:1-21)

This is how the tragedy of humanity began, when instead of the properties of the Lord’s love: joy, patience, meekness, mercy, etc. (Gal 5:22-23), they acquired the properties of demons and the devil himself.

22 And the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith,
23 meekness, self-control. There is no law against them.
24 But those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts.
(Gal.5:22-24)

The first of these was disobedience to the Father. We and our children have inherited a weakness in the body for this sin. We disobeyed our parents, our children disobeyed us. The second sin was death, which people did not have before the fall. The third sin was shame and they made themselves clothes from fig leaves. The fourth sin was fear, which people did not have before. Next comes resistance and hostility. When the Lord asked Adam why he ate the forbidden fruit, he did not repent, but angrily replied that the fruit was given by Eve, whom the Lord created. Imply that it is Your own fault. This resulted in a curse.

The descendants of Adam and Eve were to use suffering as a means of cleansing their souls from the devil's heritage. Abel took this path and his sacrifice was accepted. Kayn went the opposite way and was doomed. All humanity on earth followed the Caine path except Noah and his family. The Lord saw that humanity neglected this medicine for salvation and instead of killing sinful properties they were cultivated:

4 At that time there were giants on the earth, especially from the time when the sons of God began to come in to the daughters of men, and they began to give birth to them: these are strong people, glorious people of old.
5 And the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually;
6 And the Lord repented that he had created man on the earth, and was grieved in His heart.
7 And the LORD said, I will destroy from the face of the earth man whom I have created, from man to beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowl of the air I will destroy, for I have repented that I made them.
8 But Noah found grace in the sight of the Lord.
(Gen.6:4-8)

To neglect the gift of the Lord - sorrow, for salvation and instead of killing sinful properties to cultivate them, is great evil in the eyes of the Lord God, the Lord of heaven and earth. And the Lord saw that the wickedness of men was great on earth, and that every thought of the thoughts of their hearts was evil continually; and the Lord repented that he had created man on earth, and was grieved in His heart. God destroyed humanity with a flood.

For us, people of the last times, warnings were written in the New Testament, so that we would not neglect the sufferings of the cross and, instead of mortifying sinful lusts, would not choose the path of cultivating them:

3 Beloved! Having all the zeal to write to you about common salvation, I considered it necessary to write to you an exhortation - to strive for the faith that was once delivered to the saints.
4 For certain people have crept in, who of old were destined for this condemnation, the wicked, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness and denying the only Master God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
5 I want to remind you, who already know this, that the Lord, having delivered the people from the land of Egypt, then destroyed those who did not believe,
6 And the angels who did not keep their dignity, but left their habitation, he keeps in everlasting bonds, under darkness, for the judgment of the great day.
7 Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, like them, committed fornication and went after other flesh, being subjected to the punishment of eternal fire, were set up as an example,
8 So it will surely be with these dreamers, who defile the flesh, reject the rulers and slander the high authorities.
9 Michael the Archangel, when he spoke with the devil, arguing about the body of Moses, did not dare to pronounce a reproachful judgment, but said: “The Lord rebuke you.”
10 But these slander what they do not know; Whatever they know by nature, like dumb animals, they corrupt themselves.
(Jude 1:3-11)

From these teachings recorded in the Holy Scriptures, we see how, due to the seduction of a person by the devil, he adopted demonic properties: disobedience, death, shame, fear, resistance, etc. But we see the compassion and love of the Lord, who hastened to the rescue of the fallen man and the strait The blood of lambs created an antidote - suffering, which by taking one can free oneself from the properties of the devil and in their place return the properties of the Lord's love.

Man is given the free will to use these antidotes or to act against the will of the Lord and grow them to his own destruction in place of killing sinful properties. These two paths are called the path of Cain and the path of Abel.

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many go in thereat;
14 For narrow is the gate and narrow is the way that leads to life, and few find it.
(Matt. 7:13,14)

2. WHY IS BAPTISM BY FIRE?

11 I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I; I am not worthy to carry His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire;
(Matt. 3:11)

Christians of our day need to pay more attention not only to the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which we receive at the new birth.

But also to fire baptism, which is the path of cleansing from sinful properties inherited from the fallen Adam.

A loving God hastened to save humanity and instead of clothing made from fig leaves, he clothed Adam and Eve with leather clothing.

7 And the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed together fig leaves and made aprons for themselves.
(Gen.3:7)
21 And the Lord God made garments of skins for Adam and his wife and clothed them.
(Gen.3:21)

Blood was shed and the lambs' mourning went up to heaven. The Lord created a medicine that destroys the devil’s heritage and in its place reproduces the properties of the Lord’s love. The first sons of Adam and Eve made sacrifices. The Lord accepted Abel’s sacrifice because he sacrificed a lamb - sorrow and blood. But Kayna did not accept the sacrifice, because he was donating vegetables.

John the Baptist spoke of the coming of our Lord and King as coming to baptize us with the Holy Spirit and fire. The Jews coming from Egyptian captivity were accompanied by a cloud - a symbol of the Holy Spirit and a pillar of fire - a symbol of fiery baptism.

In the New Testament we find a continuation of the sacrifice, which is suffering and medicine that destroys the devil's inheritance:

5 Therefore put to death your members that are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil lust, and covetousness, which is idolatry,
6 For which the wrath of God shall come upon the sons of disobedience,
7 in which you also once lived when you lived among them.
8 Now put aside everything: anger, wrath, malice, slander, filthiness of your lips;
9 Do not tell lies to one another, having put off the old man with his deeds
10 and having put on the new one, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him who created it,
11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free, but Christ is all and in all.
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering,
13 Forbearing with one another and forgiving each other, if anyone has a complaint against anyone: just as Christ has forgiven you, so do you.
14 Above all, put on love, which is the sum of perfection.
(Col.3:5-14)

Thus, we see that there are two ways of living as a Christian: after rebirth from the Holy Spirit.

THE NARROW PATH OF SACRIFICE

1 Therefore I beseech you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, [for] your reasonable service,
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
(Rom.12:1,2)

A Christian can follow the path of Abel with the sacrifice of suffering to destroy the anger in himself. This is the way to accomplish the works of the Lord's grace.

(Rom.5:3-5)

WIDE PATH TO DEATH

38 And whoever does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me.
39 He who saves his life will lose it; but he who loses his life for My sake will save it.
(Matt. 10:38,39)

When we come to the Lord's Supper, we remember the Lord's command to remember suffering as a cure for the properties of the devilish nature.

Cain and Abel made sacrifices. Cain was faithful to serve the Lord without suffering or blood. His sacrifice was not accepted, for the Lord determines that such labors are evil in His eyes. These are the works of cursing the law, which the Pharisees diligently carried out. Abel brought a lamb with blood and suffering and his sacrifice was accepted.

Does the New Testament record the reason why Cain killed Abel?

11 For this is the gospel which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another,
12 Not like Cain, [who] was of the evil one and killed his brother. Why did you kill him? Because his deeds were evil, but his brother’s deeds were righteous.
(1 John 3:11,12)

The Apostle Paul writes with a grieving heart about the Philippians, many of whom became enemies of the cross of Christ:

17 Imitate me, brothers, and look to those who walk in the image you have in us.
18 For many, of whom I have often told you, and now even speak with tears, act as enemies of the cross of Christ.
19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and their glory is in shame; they think about earthly things.
(Phil.3:17-19)

The Apostle Jude writes that such people followed the path of Cain:

11 Woe to them, because they walk in the way of Cain, give themselves over to the deceitfulness of reward, like Balaam, and perish in stubbornness, like Korah.
(Jude 1:11)

CONCLUSION

We asked the question: Why is fire baptism needed? The answer is clear. There are two paths: narrow to salvation and wide to destruction.

Narrow to salvation is Abel’s path of suffering or fiery baptism, which destroys the properties of sinful flesh inherited from the fallen Adam and creates the properties of the Lord’s love.

The broad path to destruction is the Caine path, opposite to the first. This path without suffering is only outward religiosity, designated as the curse of the law. Sinful properties are not destroyed, but cultivated.

3. WHAT DIFFERENCES RIGHTEOUS ACTS FROM EVIL ACTS?

12 Not like Cain, [who] was of the evil one and killed his brother. Why did you kill him? Because his deeds were evil, but his brother’s deeds were righteous.
(1 John 3:12)

From the teaching of Holy Scripture it is clear that anger can be destroyed with the medicine given to us by the Lord - suffering. Several hundred sufferings because of Christ and anger will not remain. But there is also the opposite way. This is to neglect the Lord's medicine and, instead of killing the devil's heritage, to grow them in us.

(Heb.6:7,8)

You can burn anger and get rid of it. To do this, you need to take the Lord's medicine - suffering. There is another way. Rejecting God's cure is suffering and cultivating her even greater anger.

An example with parking a car.

Here is just one example from my life. Today I came to a home group and parked my car by the side of the road, as I often did. A man appeared from a neighboring house and began yelling that I should park the car in another place, because I stood opposite his exit from his yard and this was preventing him from passing.

The “devilish heritage” of hostility and anger immediately arose in my heart. After all, a person can drive at his own discretion in his own area, but not on the street, especially since there was no sign restricting the car from stopping. I objected that I saw no reason to move the car, since there was plenty of room to leave his yard. At these words, a car driven by a woman appeared from his yard and, without any difficulties, freely left and drove away. You see, I say, the woman just drove by.

But anger and resistance raged in my heart. There was also gloating that his arguments about the inconvenience of leaving the yard were groundless, because a woman had just passed by. But the Holy Spirit reminded me that the flow of my feelings and thoughts are carnal, Cain-like.

We need to distinguish between these two opposing currents:

13 Whether any of you is wise and understanding, prove this by actual good behavior with wise meekness.
14 But if you have bitter envy and contentiousness in your heart, do not boast or lie about the truth.
15 This is not wisdom coming down from above, but earthly, spiritual, demonic,
16 For where there is envy and contentiousness, there is confusion and everything evil.
17 But the wisdom that comes from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, obedient, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and without hypocrisy.
18 But the fruit of righteousness in peace is sown to those who keep peace.
(James 3:13-18)

Remembering these passages of Scripture, at some moment I felt the disgustingness of the devil’s inheritance and carnal thinking in my heart, which is opposition to the Lord.

5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on carnal things, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on spiritual things.
6 To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace,
7 because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for they do not obey the law of God, and indeed cannot.
8 Therefore those who live according to the flesh cannot please God.
(Rom.8:5-8)

Yes, in truth, sinful flesh cannot obey the Lord’s commandment to love the enemy, and if you are forced to walk a mile, walk two. Sinful flesh can only be mortified through suffering, so that, through much suffering, its complete destruction can be achieved:

1 Therefore, just as Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourself with the same thought; for he who suffers in the flesh ceases to sin,
2 so that the rest of the time in the flesh we should no longer live according to human lusts, but according to the will of God.
(1 Peter 4:1,2)

Our Lord Jesus Christ set an example of sacrifice and endured to the end, until death on the cross. He did not swear at the attackers, but, on the contrary, asked the Heavenly Father to have pity on them, because they do not know what they are doing.

The Apostle Paul points us to this example:

3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility, consider each other better than yourselves.
4 Let each one not take care of himself [only], but each one also of others.
5 For let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 He, being in the image of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God;
7 But he made himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant, and becoming in the likeness of men, and becoming in appearance like a man;
8 He humbled himself, becoming obedient even to the point of death, even death on the cross.
9 Therefore God has highly exalted Him and given Him the name that is above every name,
10 So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 And every tongue confessed that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
(Phil.2:3-11)

For let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.

The hallmark of sacrifice is suffering. When Cain and Abel made sacrifices, the Lord accepted Abel’s sacrifice, for there was suffering there. Cain donated vegetables in which there is no suffering and therefore his sacrifice was turned away.

Suffering- is a means of destroying sinful properties: fear, unbelief, pride, greed, envy, resistance, etc., in order to instead acquire the properties of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, tranquility, mercy, and more.

Symbol of suffering- there is a cross and, coming to the Lord’s Supper, we remember our duty to go through tribulations as a cleansing and healing remedy.

The Apostle Paul points this out very clearly:

5 For if we are united to Him in the likeness of His death, we must also be [united] in [the likeness of] the resurrection,
6 Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, so that the body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;
7 For he who died was freed from sin.
(Rom.6:5-7)

Continuation of the parking example.

This whole ordeal lasted two, three minutes. I realized that in this test I could only do two things. Or mortify your sinful flesh: show humility and fulfill the will of the person asking to move to another place. With humility in this test, destroy another fortress to the Promised Land, pursuing the goal until complete liberation from the properties of sinful flesh.

1 Let us therefore beware lest, while the promise of entering His rest remains, any of you may be found to be late.
2 For it was announced to us, as well as to them; but the word they heard did not benefit them, not being mixed with the faith of those who heard it.
3 But we who have believed enter into rest, since He said: “I swore in My wrath that they should not enter My rest,” although [His] works were completed at the beginning of the world.
4 For nowhere is it said of the seventh [day] thus: And God rested on the seventh day from all His work.
5 And here again: “They will not enter My rest.”
(Heb.4:1-5)

I could have done the opposite - proudly, because the truth was on my side and made myself another enemy. But the main thing is that my sinful flesh would increase by one strength. In this test I would be an adulterer and an enemy of the Lord:

1 Where do you get hostility and strife? Is it not from here, from your lusts that war in your members?
2 You desire and do not have; you kill and envy - and cannot achieve; you bicker and fight, and you do not have because you do not ask.
3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, but to use it for your lusts.
4 Adulterers and adulterers! Don’t you know that friendship with the world is enmity against God? So, whoever wants to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain: “The spirit that dwells in us loves jealously”?
6 But grace gives all the more; That is why it is said: God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God; resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you; Cleanse your hands, you sinners; straighten your hearts, you double-minded.
9 Be afflicted, weep and howl; Let your laughter turn into crying, and your joy into sadness.
10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
(James 4:1-10)

CONCLUSION ABOUT THE CONCEPT OF THE DIFFERENCE IN THE ACTIONS OF THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE EVIL

12 Not like Cain, [who] was of the evil one and killed his brother. Why did you kill him? Because his deeds were evil, but his brother’s deeds were righteous.
(1 John 3:12)

From the teachings of Holy Scripture it is clear that anger can be destroyed with the medicine given to us by the Lord - suffering. Several hundred sufferings because of Christ and anger will not remain. But there is also the opposite way. This is to neglect the Lord's medicine and, instead of killing the devil's heritage, to grow them in us.

This is what distinguishes righteous deeds from evil deeds:

7 The earth, which has drunk the rain that falls on it many times and produces grain, useful topic, for whom it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God;
8 But the tree that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is close to a curse, the end of which is burning.
(Heb.6:7,8)

SECOND CERTIFICATE

Let's look at the passage 1 Peter 3:7-12

7 Likewise, you husbands, treat your wives wisely, as the weaker vessel, showing them honor, as joint heirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
8 Finally, be all of one mind, compassionate, brotherly, merciful, friendly, humble in wisdom;
9 Do not repay evil for evil or insult for insult; on the contrary, bless, knowing that you have been called to this, that you may inherit the blessing.
10 For whoever loves life and wants to see good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from deceitful speech;
11 turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and strive for it,
12 For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, and His ears are toward their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to destroy them from the earth.
(1 Peter 3:7-12)

The word of the Lord is for husbands to love their wives.

Not a single man in the world can love his wife when she resists his will, until he is purified through many sufferings. This is a fact and if anyone is engaged in external display, then he should simply take a closer look at the two people in the sanctuary. One was a Pharisee, the other a monk (Luke 18:9-12).

Examples of superficial religiosity.

The brother who was on hostile terms with his brother believed ex-wife. Already elderly, having passed sixty years, they lived in one large stone house, dividing the floors through the court. There were two fronts in this house. He is a father and husband who worked all his life and built this house and ex-wife with my daughter and her family. The brother's resentment against his wife, who had ruined her life and wanted to take away the roof over her head through the courts, was great. From the very first days we began to study so that he could learn to love his wife and overcome all bad things with goodness and love. The brother tried, but could not, and almost every day he fell from his wife’s sarcasm. After all, they are divorced and live separately.

One day, he was going to help her cut the logs brought for firewood. He called a friend and started sawing logs on an electric crane. It was possible to cope with the thinner ones, but it was difficult to take the thick ones in two and throw them into a craze. The brother, knowing that his wife had a chainsaw, asked her to give her for cutting thick logs. The wife felt sorry for the expensive foreign instrument and refused to give it, citing that it belonged to her daughter’s husband and could not give it to her without his knowledge. The brother knew that this was a lie, but he swallowed the bitter pill and went on working. Dinner time came, but no one invited him to the table, and here the brother’s patience ran out. He approached his wife and began to shame her for acting worse than her worst enemy. In their area, housewives, even having hired help to cut wood for money, have the custom of preparing dinner. And she, to the people who help her freely, from a good heart, did not even offer a cup of tea. They abandoned the work they had begun and parted ways with grieving hearts.

At this home group meeting, I was forced to stop my brother from his tirade of condemnation of his wife. He needed to switch his thinking from condemnation to justification. Two sisters stood up for him, feeling sorry for their brother and saying that where would he talk about his troubles, if not among his brothers and sisters.

You can speak out, but it is important to distinguish between the spiritual and carnal flow.

If the brother would tell how he received the Lord's test with his wife while cutting wood and how he could not stand this test and, for the sake of his sinful flesh, became completely angry. If he said that he felt sorry for his wife, who, while still in the power of Satan and sin, could not do otherwise, then I would understand his feelings. But he spoke against the Lord's command to love his wife and treat her as a weaker vessel.

The test must be passed, and not grumble like the Jews in the desert where they perished. Written:

(James 1:12-15)

But the brother did not see the beam in his own eye, but saw the speck in his wife’s eye.

1 Judge not, lest ye be judged,
2 For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 And why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the plank that is in your own eye?
4 Or how will you say to your brother, “Let me take the speck out of your eye,” but behold, there is a plank in your eye?
5 Hypocrite! First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see how to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
(Matt. 7:1-5)

My brother was in his third year of birth and he still did not understand in practice the meaning of suffering as a cleansing fire from devilish properties. He did not understand that he must repent for his carnal, Cain-like behavior in order to kill his anger and not cultivate it in his relationship with his wife.

The Bible records the golden rule:

12 Therefore in everything that you would have people do to you, do so to them, for this is the law and the prophets.
(Matt. 7:12)

Reading this saying of the Lord, you involuntarily think about it. How many fiery trials must be passed before a brother can forgive his wife and begin to love her. Any person will respond to love with love. But if he only adheres to superficial religiosity, which in practice is a legal curse, then his anger will not decrease, but on the contrary will increase.

I remembered a recent conversation with a believer who was baptized ten years ago. She truly wondered what was happening to her mother. After her father's death, she, her husband and son moved to live with her. Ten years of living together passed, and according to her, the mother became worse and worse towards her own daughter. From the speech of the Christian woman it was not difficult to understand that she spoke negatively about her mother and therefore was under the curse of the law.

What does it mean to be under the curse of the law?

The answer is simple. There are righteous and evil deeds. If a person has confused the Will of the Lord. Instead of accepting suffering as an undeserved accusation, as a medicine for liberation from devilish properties and defeating evil with good, instead of a blessing, it generates a curse:

(James 3:5,6)

This curse surrounds her entire existence and she herself lives in it. The sister spoke negatively about her mother, and was now placing a curse on her relationship with her mother. She did not see or understand this. This is called - to be under the law of damnation, for this comes through our lips:

10 From the same mouth comes blessing and curse: this, my brethren, must not be so.
(James 3:10)

When we examined this case, I said that a brother will never be able to overcome the evil of his wife with kindness and love if he does not ask the Lord for understanding to understand the differences between evil and good works, the differences between grace and legal curse.

THIRD CERTIFICATE

At a home group, one sister said in surprise: “Your sermon shows that for many years I followed the path of Cain and did not understand it.”

She shared her example. She's lucky. She finally managed to bake a pie that had previously been impossible to bake. In the morning she rejoiced at her luck and asked her husband to cut it beautifully. The husband, not understanding her wishes, cut the pie in his own way. When the wife saw that the pie was not cut into different parts, but into triangles, and not into long strips, she was speechless with chagrin. An avalanche of indignation from these emotions followed. As they say, my mood spoiled for the whole day.

Next came the preparation of a special filling for the pie and she prepared everything. The phone rang and she hurried to him, instructing her daughter to add a little honey and mix everything thoroughly. When she returned, she was again upset and indignant, because instead of a teaspoon, her daughter put two tablespoons of honey. This changes the taste of the filling. The daughter received a dose of reproaches and accusations for her negligence.

The sister was surprised that not through suffering, but for many years she acted like Cain. She did not mortify sinful lusts, but nurtured them.

How dangerous are the ignitions of lust. We can see this from the examples of the Bible.

Next, we traced what it means to be a disciple of Christ and understand that after being born of the Holy Spirit, one must take the path of purification. In suffering, one must not grumble, but give thanks for it, for this is accepting the antidote to the properties of the devil’s inheritance. We need to come to complete purification so that our bodies can be glorified. Holy Name Gentlemen. On this path we must not forget the omnipotence of our Lord Jesus Christ.

20 A V big house there are vessels not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; and some in honorable, and others in low, use.
21 Therefore, if anyone is clean from this, he will be a vessel of honor, sanctified and useful to the Master, fit for every good work.
(2 Tim. 2:20,21)

4. WHY CAN’T YOU FORGET THE OMNIPOTENCE OF THE LORD?

29 Are not two small birds sold for an assar? And not one of them will fall to the ground without the [will] of your Father;
30 And the hairs of your head are all numbered;
(Matt. 10:29,30)

This verse describes the Lord's omnipotence over the government of the earth in precise detail, down to counting the hairs on our heads.

Let's return to the examples described above.

The first thing that a brother should understand is that the test with his wife, when cutting wood, does not happen without the will of the Lord. When baking a pie, the sister must not forget that it was not without the will of the Lord that the husband cut the pie not according to her wishes and that the daughter put in two spoons of honey not without the will of the Lord. Why is this so? Answer on topic.

The Lord's children must go through the path of suffering, which is the antidote to the devil's inheritance. Reading Holy Bible, we see how the Lord cares for his children, so that they would be cleansed from the devil’s inheritance: anger, irritation, pride, greed, fear, envy, etc., and be prepared for eternal cooperation with the Lord.

Let's look at the power of the Lord with the people of Israel:

Let's look at the passage Exodus 14:1-14

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
2 Tell the children of Israel that they should turn and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and between the sea, before Baal-zephon; Set up camp opposite it by the sea.
3 And Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, “They are lost in the land; the wilderness shut them in.”
4 But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them, and I will show my glory on Pharaoh and on all his army; and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord. And they did so.
5 And it was told to the king of Egypt that the people had fled; and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants turned against this people, and they said, “What is this that we have done?” Why did they let the Israelites go so that they would not work for us?
6 [Pharaoh] harnessed his chariot and took his people with him;
7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over them all.
8 And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the children of Israel; and the children of Israel walked under a high hand.
9 And the Egyptians pursued after them, and all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and the horsemen, and all his army, and overtook them encamped by the sea, at Pi-hahiroth in front of Baal-zephon.
10 Pharaoh drew near, and the children of Israel looked back, and behold, the Egyptians were coming after them: and they were greatly afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the Lord,
11 And they said to Moses, “Are there no graves in Egypt, because you have brought us to die in the wilderness?” What did you do to us when you brought us out of Egypt?
12 Isn’t this what we told you in Egypt, saying, “Leave us, let us work for the Egyptians?” For it is better for us to be slaves to the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.
13 But Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid; stand still, and you will see the salvation of the Lord, which He will do for you today, for the Egyptians whom you see now, you will see no more forever;
14 The Lord will fight for you, but you can be calm.
(Ex.14:1-14)

We know that the Lord dried up the sea and led the Israelites along the bottom to the other shore, and drowned the Egyptians who chased them. But we can ask ourselves, why did the Lord need to frighten the already frightened Israelites with the hardness of Pharaoh’s heart so that he would pursue these people?

Let's answer this question with the concept of the healing power of grief.

Sorrow is a cure for the properties of sinful flesh and therefore, in sorrows, one must not be angry, like a brother was angry with his wife, or a sister for a spoiled pie, but thank the Lord for this test. This is recorded in the Bible:

15 See to it that no one repays evil for evil; but always seek the good of each other and everyone.
16 Rejoice always.
17 Pray without ceasing.
18 In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
19 Do not quench the Spirit.
(1 Thess. 5:15-19)

Thus, the disciple of Christ must understand that the Lord has taken up his teaching. All conditions will come from the Lord, even to the smallest detail, and how we act in these conditions depends on us. Either we will emerge victorious, accepting the test sent by the Lord for sorrow in order to burn sinful flesh, or, on the contrary, we will choose to please the flesh, grow it and from it, and perish.

12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he is tried he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” because God is not tempted by evil and He Himself does not tempt anyone,
14 But everyone is tempted, being drawn away and enticed by his own lust;
15 But lust, when it has conceived, gives birth to sin, and when sin is committed, it gives birth to death.
(James 1:12-15)

WINNERS

7 He who overcomes will inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he will be My son.
8 But the fearful, and the unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake that burneth with fire and brimstone. This is the second death.
(Rev.21:7,8)

The Bible contains many examples of victory in cleansing suffering.

Example of the prophet Daniel.

Let us remember the prophet Daniel, when his enemies laid a deadly trap for him. They asked the Persian king Darius to issue a decree so that everyone who would ask for something in a month - a person or God, and not a king, would be thrown to the lions. Daniel knelt with his requests to the Lord and this he did every day.
Daniel knew about the decree and understood that if he knelt in prayer, he would be thrown into the lions' den. This is a test of fiery suffering and realizing that it is from the Lord of heaven and earth, the Lord, he decided to take the antidote: suffering.

12 Beloved! do not shy away from the fiery temptation sent to you to test it as a strange adventure for you,
13 But rejoice as you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when His glory is revealed you will rejoice and triumph.
14 If they slander you because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of Glory, the Spirit of God, rests on you. By these He is blasphemed, but by you He is glorified.
15 Let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or as a trespasser;
(1 Peter 4:12-15)

And Daniel was not put to shame in the faith of the Lord, for salvation had come:

Let's look at the passage Daniel 6:19-28

19 And in the morning the king arose at dawn and went hastily to the lions' den,
20 And coming to the den, he called out to Daniel with a mournful voice, and the king said to Daniel: Daniel, servant of the living God! Could your God, whom you always serve, save you from the lions?
21 Then Daniel said to the king: King! live forever!
22 My God sent His angel and stopped the mouths of the lions, and they did not harm me, because I was pure before Him, and before you, O king, I did not commit a crime.
23 Then the king rejoiced exceedingly over him and ordered Daniel to be raised up from the den; and Daniel was taken up out of the pit, and no injury was found on him, because he believed in his God.
24 And the king commanded, and those men who had accused Daniel were brought and thrown into the lions' den, both they and their children and their wives; and they had not reached the bottom of the ditch when the lions took possession of them and crushed all their bones.
25 After this, King Darius wrote to all peoples, tribes and languages living throughout the whole earth: “May peace be multiplied to you!
26 I give a command that in every region of my kingdom they should tremble and revere the God of Daniel, because He is the living and everlasting God, and His kingdom is indestructible, and His dominion is endless.
27 He delivers and saves, and performs signs and wonders in heaven and on earth; He delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”
28 And Daniel prospered both in the reign of Darius and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
(Dan.6:19-28) 19 such a person who, having heard the words of this curse, would boast in his heart, saying: “I will be happy, although I will walk according to the will of my heart”; and thus the well-fed will perish with the hungry; 2 of those nations about which the Lord said to the children of Israel: “Do not go in to them, and let them not come in to you, lest they turn your hearts to their gods”; Solomon clung to them with love.
3 And he had seven hundred wives and three hundred concubines; and his wives corrupted his heart.
4 During Solomon's old age, his wives turned his heart toward other gods, and his heart was not completely devoted to the Lord his God, like the heart of David his father.
5 And Solomon began to serve Ashtoreth, the god of Sidon, and Milcom, the abomination of the Ammonites.
6 And Solomon did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not fully follow the Lord, as David his father did.
7 Then Solomon built a temple for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, on the mountain that is before Jerusalem, and for Moloch, the abomination of Ammon.
8 He did this for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and made sacrifices to their gods.
9 And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because he turned away his heart from the Lord God of Israel, who appeared to him twice
10 And he commanded him that he should not follow other gods; but he did not fulfill what the Lord commanded him.
(1 Kings 11:1-10)

Before the Teacher the Holy Spirit revealed this truth to you and me about two opposite paths: the mortification of sinful properties in suffering or the cultivation of sinful lusts, we could not answer many pressing questions.

We have often discussed the question of when a Christian begins to fall away from the Lord. Now everything has become very simple and clear.Our old, sinful flesh cannot submit to the will of the Lord, so we must joyfully accept the antidote - suffering.

3 And not only this, but we glory in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces patience,
4 From patience comes experience, from experience comes hope,
5 but hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
(Rom.5:3-5)

35 Therefore do not abandon your hope, for which there is a great reward.

(Heb. 10:32-39)

5 I am the vine, and you are the branches; He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
6 Whoever does not abide in Me will be cast out like a branch and wither; and such [branches] are collected and thrown into the fire, and they burn.
7 If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
8 By this will My Father be glorified, that you bear much fruit and become My disciples.
(John 15:5-8)

But we also need to know the opposite - the evil deeds of Cain. This is serving the Lord without the labors of suffering. Evil deeds are the direction of the fire of suffering not on one’s own log in order to burn it, but on one’s surroundings in order to set fire to all being inflamed by Gehenna:

4 Behold, the ships, no matter how large they are and no matter how strong winds they rush around, with a small rudder they steer where the helmsman wants;
5 Likewise, the tongue is a small member, but does a lot. Look, a small fire ignites a lot of substance!
6 And the tongue is fire, the embellishment of unrighteousness; the tongue is in such a position between our members that it defiles the whole body and inflames the circle of life, being itself inflamed by Gehenna.
(James 3:4-6)

Not by blessing, but by cursing, we set fire to all of existence and we ourselves live in this curse. It's the same with passions. We can burn them in the fire of suffering or grow them to the point that we are no longer able to get rid of them.

The Lord warned Cain that sin was at the door, but he was powerless before the passion of murder. The Lord warned Solomon twice, but he was powerless to throw off the sin he had grown. That's why it is written:

4 For it is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and become partakers of the Holy Spirit,
5 and having tasted the good word of God and the powers of the world to come,
6 and those who have fallen away, to renew them again with repentance, when they again crucify the Son of God within themselves and curse [Him].
7 The land that drinks the rain that falls on it many times and produces grain that is useful to those for whom it is cultivated receives a blessing from God;
8 But the tree that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is close to a curse, the end of which is burning.
(Heb.6:4-8)

Cain neglected the antidote - grief, and died forever from the increased lusts of the devil.

Let us be afraid of cultivating the evil root of sectarian strife.

The Lord commanded us to love our brothers.

11 For this is the gospel which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another,
12 Not like Cain, [who] was of the evil one and killed his brother. Why did you kill him? Because his deeds were evil, but his brother’s deeds were righteous.
(1 John 3:11,12)

Let's look at the passage Hebrews 10:32-39

32 Remember your former days, when you were enlightened and endured the great struggle of suffering,
33 sometimes themselves, in the midst of reproaches and sorrows, serving as a spectacle [for others], sometimes taking part in others who were in the same [state];
34 For you also had compassion for my bonds and accepted the plunder of your property with joy, knowing that you have in heaven a better and lasting property.
35 Therefore do not abandon your hope, for which there is a great reward.
36 You need patience so that, having fulfilled the will of God, you receive what was promised;
37 For yet a little while, a very little, and the Coming One will come and will not tarry.
38 The righteous shall live by faith; but if [anyone] hesitates, My soul has no pleasure in him.
39 But we are not of those who waver to destruction, but we [stand] in faith for the salvation of our souls.
(Heb. 10:32-39)

With the Lord's blessings, brother Leonidas. Latvia.

CAIN AND ABEL
in the Bible, two brothers, sons of Adam and Eve. According to the Book of Genesis, Cain was history's first murderer and Abel was history's first murder victim. Hebrew name Cain shows similarities with the verb “kana” (to bring into being), used by Eve, who said: “I brought forth man” (Gen. 4:1), as well as with the words “cain” (blacksmith) and “kana” (jealous). The name Abel (Hevel in Hebrew) may be derived from the Hebrew word hevel (breath). The story of Cain and Abel is given in chapter 4 of the Book of Genesis and nowhere else in Hebrew Bible not mentioned. Abel was a cattle breeder, Cain was a farmer. Cain brought a gift to God from the fruits of the earth, while Abel sacrificed the firstborn animals of his flock. Cain, angry that God favored Abel's sacrifice, killed his brother. When God asked him: “Where is Abel your brother?” - he answered: “Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Genesis 4:9). God punishes Cain with a curse: “You will be an exile and a wanderer on the earth” (Gen. 4:12), but at the same time marks him with the “Seal of Cain” so that no one will kill him. Cain goes to the "land of Nod" (land of wandering), east of Eden. Throughout the Bible there is a motif of God's preference for younger brothers, such as Jacob, Joseph or David; Abel is the first in this row. Some researchers see in the biblical story a reflection of the conflict between two ways of life, pastoral and agricultural. However, more significantly, the gifts brought by Cain and Abel are the first sacrifices mentioned in the Bible. It has therefore been suggested that this tradition reflected the belief that God was more pleased with animal offerings rather than plant offerings. It is especially important that in this story the theme of moral responsibility, first heard in the previous story about Adam and Eve, is further developed. When Cain begins to envy his brother, God says to him: “If you do good, do you not lift up your face? And if you do not do good, then sin lies at the door; it attracts you to itself, but you must rule over it” (Genesis 4:7 ). This is the first appearance of the word "sin" ("chet") in the Bible. Cain's sin is especially striking because it is not just murder, but fratricide. According to rabbinic tradition, Cain repented of his sin and was subsequently accidentally killed by his descendant, the blind Lamech. If Cain in the New Testament is mentioned as an example of villainy (1 John 3:12), then Abel is mentioned as the first righteous man to suffer a violent death (Matthew 23:35), and as an example of faith (Heb 11:4). In the Christian exegetical tradition, Abel is a typos (type) of Christ. On the other hand, there is evidence that some Gnostics worshiped Cain as the enemy of Israel's Creator God, whose worship they rejected. The Bible says that Cain married, had children, and built the first city (Gen. 4:17-24). Apparently, Cain's wife was one of his sisters (Gen. 5:4). Descendants of Cain did not survive the flood, but the "Keneites", a tribe of blacksmiths and metallurgists, are mentioned as contemporaries of Abraham (Gen. 15:19), Moses (Judges 1:16), Deborah (Judges 4:11) and Saul (1 Sam. 15:6), perhaps traced their origins to Cain. In the Anglo-Saxon epic Beowulf, the monster Grendel is a descendant of Cain.

Turning the pages holy bible, we will learn a lot of interesting and mysterious stories. It is in this sacred book that the crime of fratricide, which was committed by one of the sons of Adam and Eve, is first described. So why did Cain kill Abel, and how was he punished later? Despite the fact that this conflict is described in great detail on the pages of scripture, there are several reasons for what happened.

Adam and Eve, returning from paradise to ordinary earth, were forced to start working so that they would have something to eat and something to wear. They had sons - Cain and Abel. Each of them chose their own path. Cain began cultivating the land and growing plants, and Abel liked cattle breeding and became a simple shepherd.

Both of these men were pious and wanted to please God. To appease the Almighty and seek his favor, they made sacrifices to him. During one of these sacrifices, Cain lit a small fire and placed a bundle of ears of grain in it. Abel lit another fire, killed the fattest lamb and put it on the fire in the same way.

But God accepted only the sacrifice of his younger brother Abel, since he was a pious and kind man. He sincerely believed in the Lord and prayed with a pure soul. The elder brother Cain was not noticed by God, because the Almighty saw the falsity of his prayer and presentation. Cain made a sacrifice only because it was necessary, and not from his heart.

Seeing that Abel was more successful, the proud Cain was indignant at this state of affairs. He was filled with anger and envy. He began to hate his own brother. The Lord tried to instill in him other thoughts and soften his heart, but he remained adamant. Lord in literally told him that a person who starts something bad commits a sin.

But Cain was already on the path to fratricide. He called Abel into the field and took his life in cold blood. No tears and pleas of the victim, no thoughts that he would bring grief to his own parents, stopped the killer.

Cain believed that not a single living soul noticed his vile deed, but this was not the case. The Almighty sees everything. Turning to him, the Lord asked: “Where is your brother?” To which the criminal replied: “How do I know, I’m not my brother’s keeper!”

Then God decided to punish Cain as follows:

  • put a curse on him;
  • send to live in a foreign country;
  • the killer will not find peace and tranquility in any place;
  • every hour his conscience will torment him for the innocently shed blood;
  • put a special mark on him so that people he met would know who was in front of them and would not accidentally kill him.

This story shows deep philosophical meaning. We see the reasons that prompted Cain to commit a great sin, we realize the responsibility for his actions and understand that for every crime an identical punishment will necessarily follow.

Other murder theories

  1. According to one version, the woman became the bone of contention. Despite the fact that the Bible speaks of only 4 people living at that time, it is believed that the brothers also had sisters. One of them is Avan - both brothers liked it, and they could not share it. This theory appeared due to the fact that it was Cain who later married this woman and founded new town and gave birth to a son.
  2. Another theory considers this murder to be unintentional. In Islam they say that one day, in a rage, Cain grabbed Abel by the breasts and asked the Lord: “What should I do with him?” At this time, the devil was nearby, who whispered to him: “Kill!” Without meaning to, his brother killed Abel.
  3. Philosopher Yosef Albo puts forward his version of what happened. He says that Cain could not forgive Abel for killing innocent animals. Because of this, a scandal broke out between them, which resulted in death.
  4. Talmudic books say that a battle took place between the brothers, where Abel was the winner. Wanting to avenge his defeat, Cain committed murder.

But still, the first version is considered the main version in spiritual literature. Cain was endowed with such vices as malice, indifference, hatred, anger and cruelty, which is why he committed the murder of his blood brother.

Cain was punished according to his deserts. All his life he lived away from his family, but even there he did not find peace. As soon as he closed his eyes, the image of his brother Abel appeared in front of him in a pool of blood. His conscience constantly tormented him; he was frightened by any rustle. As soon as a leaf flew from the tree, Cain began to run in panic.

Nevertheless, he continued his favorite business - cultivating the land. It has become Starting point new generation of farmers.

For the rest of her life, Eva grieved and cried for her murdered son. At first, no one dared to tell her the whole truth about her sons, but the devil brought her this terrible news and told her everything in detail. This is where the heaviest grief in the world comes from - the death of a loved one. But he still took pity on the unfortunate mother and sent her a new son, who was named Seth, which means “foundation.” This symbolizes the beginning of a new world in which there should be no anger, indifference and murder.

Human life is given by God, and no one has the right to take it away from a person.

Regardless of why Cain killed Abel, Cain became a household name. It is precisely this that designates a person - a murderer, a scoundrel and a sinner. To recognize him, just look at his face, drooping and distorted with anger. His crime was great and his punishment was worthy.
