Thermal insulation materials are building products designed to protect the enclosing structures (walls, floors, roofs, foundations) of buildings and structures from heat loss, in other words, to reduce the thermal conductivity coefficient.

Today we will talk about penoplex (penoplex) - one of the types of thermal insulation in modern construction.

What is penoplex insulation?

Penoplex slabs are extruded polystyrene foam, produced in the form of slabs. The structure of penoplex is similar to the structure of conventional polystyrene foam, however, penoplex has a number of advantages - primarily higher density and strength.

Specifications penoplex:

  • low thermal conductivity (thermal conductivity coefficient 0.03 W/m·ºK);
  • high strength (both compressive and bending);
  • low water absorption (no more than 0.2 - 0.4% by volume in 24 hours);
  • low vapor permeability (vapor permeability coefficient 0.007-0.008 mg/m h Pa);
  • durability over 50 years;
  • combustion resistance;
  • environmentally friendly (non-toxic, non-rotting);
  • wide operating temperature range (-50…+75ºС).

Extruded polystyrene foam is available in several types (depending on density and area of application) in the form of slabs standard sizes, which are not difficult to install and can be easily cut to the required size.

"Penoplex WALL"(density 25-32 kg/m3) – intended for insulation of external and interior walls, partitions, plinths for effective heat conservation and savings on heating costs for building premises. These slabs are also used in the construction of buildings when constructing walls using “well masonry”.

In case of insulation of external walls with penoplex, a plaster system can be made on top of the insulation using a mesh, or it can be lined with any façade cladding material (siding, tiles, lining).

"Penoplex FOUNDATION"(density 29-33 kg/m3) - used in the construction of basements, construction of foundations, insulation of septic tanks. Penoplex FOUNDATION slabs have increased strength and a practically zero water absorption coefficient.

"Penoplex ROOFING"(density 28-33 kg/m 3) specially produced slabs for insulation of flat and pitched roofs. Light, hard, moisture resistant material, with excellent thermal insulation properties.

"Penoplex 45"(density 35-47 kg/m 3) - insulation road surfaces, in particular runways, to prevent them from frost heaving of the soil and destruction of the top layer of the canvas. It is also widely used for insulating roofs in use, on which there are pedestrian areas and various areas, including parking lots.

"Penoplex COMFORT"(density 25-35 kg/m3) - a brand of thermal insulation boards used in housing construction (private residential buildings, insulation of apartment walls, as well as loggias and balconies).

Penoplex installation

Insulation of external walls with penoplex is carried out in several stages.

  1. Preparatory work consist in preparing the walls for insulation, namely cleaning them from dirt, dust, old finishing materials, paint and varnish coatings. It is recommended to level the walls using a plaster mixture (in case of obvious unevenness of the walls) and treat them with an antifungal compound.
  2. Gluing Penoplex boards carried out using special adhesive compositions on the dry surface of the walls. The adhesive is applied directly to the insulating board.
  3. Mechanical fastening made using dowels, based on 4 pcs. us 2 , after gluing the boards with glue. Along the perimeter of windows, doorways and at the corners of the building, the number of dowels increases - 6-8 pcs. us 2 .
  4. A plaster composition is applied over the insulation boards . For better adhesion of the plaster to the insulation, it is recommended to create roughness on the surface of the slabs using a carriage brush. A reinforcing polymer mesh is “recessed” into the first plaster layer. Next, a second layer of plaster is applied, after which dries, the walls are painted in the desired color.
  5. Instead of plaster, it is possible to finish the walls siding, wood, as well as the use of hanging systems for which the frame is pre-arranged.

If it is impossible to insulate from the outside, then, if necessary, insulate the walls from the inside. The work is carried out in a similar way, but foil is installed on top of the penoplex. polyethylene film as a vapor barrier, then gypsum plasterboard sheets are attached, onto which wallpaper can later be glued. The lathing for hanging drywall is attached with dowels to the wall through the insulation.

Work on insulation of balconies and loggias is carried out in the same way.. The joints between the plates are taped. After installing a vapor barrier with PE foil film, we also glue the joints with tape - we create a kind of thermos.

If you decide to use drywall for finishing, then you need to choose moisture-resistant gypsum board sheets. In addition to the walls, it is also necessary to insulate the loggia floor.

In the first case, the insulation is laid on top of the rafters in checkerboard pattern. A vapor-permeable membrane is spread over the penoplex. Expanded polystyrene is fixed with longitudinal slats with a thickness of at least 40 mm to ensure ventilation between the insulation and roofing material, in increments of 300 mm.

Penoplex compared to its analogue - polystyrene foam - has a higher cost, but significantly exceeds it in strength. It is ideal for plastering systems.

When performing thermal insulation work, they are used. These materials can significantly reduce heat dissipation into the surrounding space. Penoplex is especially popular, the technical characteristics of which make it possible to use it in different regions. By selecting slabs of suitable thickness, you can ensure a sufficient level of thermal insulation of walls, floors, and ceilings. Let's talk about this insulation in more detail.

Penoplex is a universal thermal insulation material

Penoplex is extruded polystyrene foam, which gets its name from the trademark of the same name. Belongs to the category of the most popular thermal insulation materials thanks to its unique technical characteristics and reasonable cost. It is actively used for insulation various surfaces during the construction and reconstruction of residential buildings and public buildings.

During the production process, polystyrene granules are foamed under conditions high pressure and temperature. The catalyst for the process is carbon dioxide and light freon. The finished mass, similar to cream whipped with a mixer, is blown out through special nozzles of the extrusion unit. Here the freon evaporates, and the resulting voids are filled with air.

This production technology makes it possible to obtain a finely porous material, inside of which adjacent cells with air are isolated from each other. The diameter of the air pockets does not exceed 0.1-0.2 mm. Thanks to its uniform distribution throughout the entire volume of the material, the manufacturer ensures the required level of properties. The material is highly durable and exhibits excellent thermal insulation characteristics. By selecting a material of sufficient thickness, the desired effect can be achieved.

For your information! Penoplex 50 mm is used for insulating buildings, roads, and runways.

The manufacturer offers various types of thermal insulation material:

  • Foundation, capable of withstanding significant loads during operation. The minimum thickness of the slabs is 50 mm. If necessary, you can order a heat insulator of greater thickness if the structure will be operated in the northern regions;
  • Roof, having a special shape that facilitates the process of laying slabs. Using this type of thermal insulation material, it can provide high-quality protection for the roof from external cold. In this case, it becomes possible to use the attic as a living space;
  • Comfort. A penoplex thickness of 30 mm is usually sufficient for high-quality thermal insulation of the walls of a residential building or loggia;
  • Wall. A suitable option for insulating walls inside and outside the job. The thickness of the material can be 20-50 mm. If the work will be done from the inside, it is better to choose a thinner material. For the facade it is worth ordering thicker slabs.

Attention! Penoplex thickness of 10 mm is not enough for high-quality insulation of the walls of a building operated in winter period. You should choose thicker slabs, for example 70 mm.

Main technical characteristics of penoplex for the foundation

According to the technical characteristics, Penoplex GEO corresponds to the old type Penoplex 35, the production of which was carried out without fire retardant. It is used for thermal insulation of surfaces whose fire resistance is not subject to increased requirements. The material belongs to group G4.

The main area of application of a heat insulator is the insulation of loaded structures with the subsequent application of a protective layer. The material is in demand when installing cement-sand screed, thermal insulation of the foundation, floor, building base or garden paths. The slabs become a reliable protection for, providing groundwater drainage and reducing their impact on the underground structures of buildings.

For your information! Biostable durable insulation is in demand when constructing shallow foundations on heaving soils.

The minimum thickness of the penoplex Foundation is 50 mm. If necessary, you can also purchase slabs 80 mm thick. The slabs are able to withstand significant loads throughout their entire service life. Their strength at linear deformation of 10% is 0.25 MPa. Water absorption by volume over 4 weeks does not exceed 0.5%. The insulation can last for more than half a century, including when used in the harsh climate of the northern regions.

Main technical characteristics of penoplex Comfort

This type is universal. The technical characteristics of Penoplex Comfort 50 mm allow for thermal insulation of many surfaces. With its help, simultaneous insulation of the roof, basement, floor and foundation of the building is carried out. The low level of water absorption, not exceeding 0.5% for 4 weeks, makes it possible to use Comfort when insulating a swimming pool or.

It is possible to insulate other objects that are operated in conditions of high humidity.

Tight joining of elements among themselves helps to increase the stability of enclosing structures. Not biodegradable. There is no need to fear that insects will appear inside the heat-insulating material and destroy the structure of the slabs from the inside. Capable of serving for more than 50 years, maintaining its technical characteristics. Can be used in various regions, including the northern ones. The material is quite dense, and therefore does not sag when attached to vertical design

Attention!. It is necessary to carry out installation correctly and reliably protect all plates. The density of Penoplex Comfort is regulated by TU 5767-006-54349294-2014. When cut, it does not crack or crumble. Compressive strength depends on the thickness of the slabs: if less than 60 mm - 0.12 MPa, more than 70 mm - 0.18 MPa.

Finishing must be done on the insulated surface.

  • Give penoplex an aesthetically attractive appearance. The material itself does not allow the formation of a beautiful surface that could be used without additional processing;
  • Prevent discolouration of slabs;
  • Avoid destruction of the material.

Main technical characteristics of penoplex Roofing

Penoplex Roofing slabs are in demand in the construction industry. Characteristic material orange color Available with a density of 35 kg/m3. Allows you to form a tough and moisture resistant thermal insulation layer, having low weight. Can be used for roofing various types, thermal insulation of building facades, floors and walls of erected and reconstructed buildings, basements, laying utilities.

The material is classified as moderately flammable. During combustion it releases a large number of smoke. This feature should be taken into account when choosing insulation for a living space.

A special connection of tenon and groove elements allows the formation of a homogeneous layer that does not have cold bridges. Thanks to the refusal to overlap adjacent elements during the installation process, it is possible to optimize the thickness of the installed thermal insulation layer and more rationally manage the free space.

Water absorption by volume of the slabs does not exceed 0.5%, and therefore the thermal insulation layer practically does not absorb moisture. High strength allows it to withstand significant loads to which the heat-insulating material may be subjected during the installation of slabs and subsequent operation of the insulated object.

If you need to insulate the façade of a building, instead of foam roofing, you can use a special type of heat insulator. Its characteristics were initially adapted for this type of work. The price of Penoplex insulation for walls outside the house is acceptable for many. It depends on the thickness of the slab. For this you can purchase material with a thickness of 20 mm, for a residential building - 50 mm.

Extruded polystyrene foam: technical characteristics and price of quality boards

This type of thermal insulation material became available to users more than half a century ago. Extruded polystyrene foam, which is sometimes called extruded polystyrene foam, immediately became a universal insulator, in demand for a variety of jobs. Manufacturers offer standard size sheets that can be transparent or colored. Sheet plastic, thanks to its special structure and unique production technology, demonstrates high performance during operation.

Attention! Before purchasing, you should find out the required insulation characteristics. Penoplex must meet the requirements.

Technical characteristics of 50 mm penoplex may differ slightly depending on the type of material. However, in most cases they change within a fairly narrow range.

The technical characteristics of penoplex 35 include:

  • Low water absorption capacity. The main advantage of this insulation. The heat insulator absorbs water molecules only on the sections, since air cells are open in these areas;
  • Low thermal conductivity. On average, this figure is 0.03 W/m·C;
  • Versatility. The manufacturer offers material of various thicknesses, making it possible to insulate many surfaces. It is used for thermal insulation of walls, foundations, loggias and balconies;

  • Low vapor permeability coefficient;
  • Long period of operation. Penoplex is able to withstand repeated freezing/thawing without losing its basic performance characteristics. On average, such material can last about 50 years;
  • High strength. During operation, the insulation can withstand significant load and pressure due to the presence of tiny air bubbles that prevent compression of the material;

  • Easy to install. The material can be easily cut with a sharp knife, giving the elements the required shape. The cut area does not crumble. Installation work can be performed all year round, since the heat insulator is not afraid of exposure to UV rays and high humidity. The slabs can be installed at any time of the year;

  • Environmental safety. In the process of producing insulation, freon is used, which does not have a negative impact on the atmosphere. During operation, the insulation does not emit substances that can cause negative impact on the human body;
  • Fire safety. The material is flame resistant;
  • Minimal chemical activity and biological inertness. By doing construction work A large number of substances with increased surface activity are used. Only a few are able to interact with penoplex. The heat insulator does not rot or decompose.

Penoplex is not the only extruded polystyrene foam that can be purchased for home insulation. Other manufacturers use similar technologies and offer high-quality insulation.

The technical characteristics of Technoplex are somewhat different from those of Penoplex. This contributes to a change in the composition of the raw materials used. A certain amount of graphite is added to the composition of the mass subjected to extrusion. The result is a highly effective insulating material that is resistant to water.

Technoplex absorbs noise well and has a long service life. At the same time, it is somewhat inferior in strength. It works well at fairly low temperatures typical of the far north and has a lower level of water absorption. Just 0.2%. However, when purchasing this type of thermal insulation material, you will have to pay more. Considering that insulating walls usually requires a large amount of material, this factor may be decisive when choosing.

Penoplex sheet sizes: how to choose the right one?

A special technology for the production of extruded polystyrene makes it possible to form a material with a unique structure, ensuring high strength of the slabs and guaranteeing unique thermal conductivity. As a rule, a material of small thickness is used for thermal insulation of various surfaces. When choosing suitable option You should follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

If you have to insulate a facility that will be operated in temperate climate, you can use slabs with a thickness of 35-50 mm. Their technical characteristics will ensure the required level of thermal insulation of walls or roofs.

For regions located in cold climatic zones, it is worth purchasing 70 mm thick insulation. Even if the frost is more than -30°C, a comfortable temperature will be maintained inside the building.

Penoplex slabs have standardized dimensions. The manufacturer offers slabs 1.2 m long and 0.6 m wide of various thicknesses. The last dimension can be in the range of 20-150 mm.

The selection of a suitable thickness should be made taking into account the operating conditions of the insulated surface.

Before purchasing thermal insulation material, you should calculate the required quantity. To do this, you need to know the area of the insulated surface. You should definitely find out when choosing 50 mm penoplex how many m² are in the package. The number of packages that are worth purchasing will depend on this. Sheets are also sold individually, and therefore the missing quantity can be purchased additionally. This indicator depends on the thickness and type of slabs. Penoplex is used as a building thermal insulation material. To make it comfortable to live in a house in any weather, so that you can go out on the loggia even in winter without warm clothes, you need high-quality insulation of walls, floors, and ceilings. Today, many new insulation materials have appeared that protect house structures from heat loss. And among them, penoplex stands out. Why has it become so popular in industrial and household use, what are its advantages and where is it used?

Reasons for popularity

Penoplex insulation has now become very popular in the insulation of buildings. They protect everything - from foundations to ceilings on balconies.

This is explained by the fact that the material attracts with its most important properties:

  • Working with it does not require special skills and knowledge,
  • It is inexpensive, and insulation is economical in price.

The main reason for the popularity of expanded polystyrene is that it is cheap, but at the same time its thermal properties are at a high level.

What is penoplex

Penoplex insulation is extruded polystyrene foam. In its structure, penoplex - be it 31, 45. 31 - resembles the well-known polystyrene foam, but it has slightly different characteristics due to the peculiarities of production.

During production, polystyrene foam granules are foamed with freon or carbon dioxide. This allows us to obtain a material that is absolutely harmless to health, hypoallergenic and has a number of advantages over foam plastic and other insulation materials.

Penoplex is produced in the form of slabs. The technical characteristics of penoplex insulation are considered one of the most optimal for protecting a building. The dimensions of the slabs are standard, but they can be cut.

Types of penoplex

Currently, several types of penoplex are produced, each of which has its own areas of application. Although this is a fairly universal material, it is still better to follow the manufacturers' recommendations and use for certain types works different types penoplex.

Currently, several types of penoplex are produced, each of which has its own areas of application.

Penoplex comes in the following types:

  • Penoplex Wall has a density of 25-32 kg/cubic meter. m. and serves for insulation of walls and partitions of buildings, basement floors.
  • Penoplex foundation has a density of 29-32 kg/cubic. m. and serves to protect foundations from freezing, basements, and ground floors. The water absorption of this type of material is almost 0.
  • Penoplex roofing has a density of 28-33 kg/cub.m. It is particularly lightweight, moisture resistant and has a rigid design. Therefore, it is more convenient for them to insulate roofs of any type.
  • Penoplex insulation 31 Perfect for insulating walls, ceilings, and floors. It is widely used for insulating loggias and balconies, as well as for protecting a number of roofs that are not in use - that is, not loaded with anything other than snow during precipitation.
  • Insulation 35 designed for insulating floors and is especially often used to create heated floors.
  • Penoplex insulation 45 has a density of 35-47 kg/cubic. m. and has a number of special characteristics that allow it to be a universal material. Its compressive strength reaches 10% and is equal to 0.5 MPa. Its water absorption is such that even when completely immersed in water, insulation 45 is practically not saturated with water.

Due to its properties, it is used for insulation industrial facilities. Penoplex 45 is widely used for insulation of runways, any roads - railway tracks and asphalt road surfaces, especially if they are laid on heaving soil and permafrost; insulation of floors, foundations, roofs.

Penoplex 45 allows you to insulate roofs in use that can be accessed by vehicles, as well as floors that bear heavy loads. Therefore, 45 is used for insulation of industrial facilities.

If we're talking about about the construction of residential buildings, then in the field of insulation of foundations and walls, especially in harsh climates, penoplex 45 has practically no equal.

Important: All types of penoplex are not afraid if they freeze, thaw and freeze again. However, this does not affect their properties in any way. They are resistant to acids, salts, alkalis, lime, alcohol, water-based paints, ammonia, cement, animal and vegetable oils.

Features of application

Penoplex slabs are easy to cut - they can be given the required dimensions using ordinary cutting tools. After cutting, the slabs are laid and fixed. You should choose adhesive for penoplex based on the manufacturer’s recommendations. It must be taken into account that some adhesives can damage it. The material is not resistant to gasoline, kerosene, benzene, polyester resins, acetone, and oil paints.

You can store the slabs on outdoors. But we must protect them from lying in the sun for a long time, since in the light the upper layers of the material begin to collapse.

The technical characteristics of the material make it practically ideal insulation. Therefore, it can be used in almost any conditions and on any objects. And the ease of installation and operation make it accessible for independent work.

Penoplex insulation (video)

Currently, there are many different thermal insulation materials on sale. One of them is Penoplex insulation, the technical characteristics of which fully meet the highest requirements for thermal insulation of almost any building element.

Modern technologies using non-toxic components make it possible to produce lightweight and easy-to-install insulation materials. “Penoplex” is produced by extrusion using various chemical additives, so the material cannot be unconditionally called absolutely environmentally friendly.

Technical and performance characteristics"Penoplex" clearly shows that it is one of the most effective heat-insulating materials today.

and the parameters of this insulation should be examined more closely. What's happened

"Penoplex"?

“Penoplex” is, in fact, extruded polystyrene foam, which is an improved form of the long-known polystyrene foam. The first installation for the production of this material appeared more than half a century ago in the USA. The production process is as follows: polystyrene granules are sent to special camera

, where during the manufacturing process of the working composition they are melted and foamed using blowing agents under the influence of high temperatures. The result is a fluffy, thick foam, similar to whipped cream, which is squeezed out of the extruder nozzles in an even layer of a set thickness, and then transferred to a conveyor belt and cut into individual panels. The entire process takes place behind closed doors, and you can only see the finished product.

Penoplex prices

penoplex

The composition is prepared and molded at a temperature of 130–140 °C at a speed of up to 60 kg/h. This method produces not only “Penoplex”, but also “Technoplex”, “Extrol” and other domestic and imported insulation materials.

As additives to such materials they are used light-stabilizing substances, antioxidants, fire retardants, modifiers, antistatic agents and other components.

  1. Antioxidants are added during the extrusion process - they prevent thermal oxidation during processing and rapid destruction during storage and operation of the insulation.
  2. Fire retardants reduce the flammability of the material or make it completely non-flammable.
  3. Other additives protect the material from aggressive environmental influences.

Porous structure of Penoplex

When extruded polystyrene foam hardens, an air layer remains inside it, evenly distributed throughout the entire structure of the material. Therefore, the finished insulation has a homogeneous porous structure with small cells ranging in size from 0.1 to 0.3 mm, filled with air (gas). Each of them is isolated from the other, which ensures the highest thermal resistance and strength of the material.

As you can see, several varieties of Penoplex are produced, which are designed for a specific area of application. Therefore, slabs of material have a retail density and a certain range of standard sizes. The insulation is easy to install, lightweight, and cuts perfectly into required size. All this allows you to carry out the process of thermal insulation of building elements independently.

Penoplex slabs are very easy to install

The table gives “dry numbers”, but it is worth considering each of the parameters in more detail.

  • Coefficient Tthermal conductivity

“Penoplex” has low thermal conductivity: this parameter is one of the lowest among all modern insulation materials, about 0.03. The thermal conductivity of the material remains practically unchanged with changes in humidity or ambient temperature (fluctuations do not exceed 0.001 ÷ 0.003 W/m²×° WITH). Therefore, Penoplex is suitable for both external and internal thermal insulation - it is also used for floors, basements and foundations, and it does not require additional external protection with moisture-resistant materials.

  • Hygroscopicity

If the insulation is excessively hygroscopic, that is, it actively absorbs moisture, it loses not only most of its heat-insulating properties, but also becomes less durable. Therefore, this parameter is especially important for materials intended for insulation.

and you need to pay special attention to this when purchasing. However, when buying high-quality Penoplex, you don’t need to worry about this parameter. To ensure the reliability of Penoplex in this regard, numerous tests were carried out, during which the slab was completely immersed in water for a month. As a result, it turned out that the slab absorbed moisture by only 0.6% of its total volume. Moreover, the absorption process took place only during the first 10 days after immersion, and moisture penetrated only into the outer a layer of insulation that

  • was damaged by the cut. The inside of it remained completely dry. This factor indicates the reliability of insulation with the help of “Penoplex” of any part of the building.

This type of polystyrene foam, such as Penoplex, perfectly resists evaporation. The slab, which is 20 mm thick, has a vapor permeability comparable to a layer of roofing felt. Therefore, using this insulation material, no additional vapor barrier is required, which significantly reduces the costs of the entire house or a separate part of it. However, in some cases, low vapor permeability will rather be a disadvantage - Penoplex will not allow natural vapor exchange, that is, the wall will not “breathe”.

  • Compressive strength

Thanks to the extrusion production technology, Penoplex has a uniform structure, and the uniform distribution of the smallest cells increases the strength and reliability of the material. It is able to withstand heavy loads, so it is excellent for insulating not only walls and ceilings, but also floors. Under heavy loads, only minor surface changes remain in the form of dents, the depth of which can be only 0.5 ÷ 1 mm.

  • Environmental friendliness

According to technological standards, Penoplex is designed as an environmentally friendly material. However, not all manufacturers adhere to these requirements, including components that are unsafe for the human body. Therefore, low-quality products over time begin to release substances that stimulate the development of certain diseases. Much depends on the installation of the material on walls - retreat technology can make Penoplex a source of danger to human health.

A high-quality material must be self-extinguishing, that is, it must spread a flame even when exposed to open fire. Unfortunately, not all materials behave this way - some of them not only burn, but also melt, turning into a burning flowing mass, which also emits a large amount of caustic and extremely toxic burning smoke.

By appearance It is difficult to determine the quality of the product, so before purchasing a large batch of material, it is worth buying one slab and conducting various experiments on it in the open air. After making sure that the insulation meets all the characteristics assigned to it, you can purchase the required number of panels.

In addition, it must be said that there is an abundance of low-quality fakes on the market, manufactured in violation technological process. This material is especially dangerous, since it is unknown how it might behave under emergency circumstances.

  • Lifetime

Since the insulation is also used for external insulation, during testing it is subjected to repeated freezing and thawing - these procedures indicate the number of cycles of use of the material under conditions of large temperature differences. Experiments are carried out until damage from external influences appears on the material. It is the number of cycles completed that determines the service life of the insulation.

Experiments conducted at NIISF showed that Penoplex can last for about 50 years without losing its original qualities. Typically, such a guarantee is given with a reserve, which means that the specified period exploitation is not the limit.

During testing, the material is exposed not only to temperature changes, but also to all kinds of atmospheric influences, such as high humidity, ultraviolet rays, and strong wind loads.

Again, we need to remind you of the manufacturer’s integrity - the material will be used without problems for the specified period if all established rules for its manufacture are followed.

  • Resistance of insulation to chemical attack

When using Penoplex in construction, you need to know which substances are capable of destroying the insulation, and which ones are in perfect harmony with it. Mainly mineral chemical compositions, which are used in construction practice, are not harmful to this material, but some organic substances cause it to soften or melt.

To avoid encountering such troubles during work, it is better to prepare in advance and exclude substances containing such components from the insulation process.

Substances incompatible with Penoplex include:

  1. Esters and ethers: ethyl acetate and methyl acetate solvents and diethyl ether.
  2. Toluene, benzene, xylene and similar hydrocarbons.
  3. Formaldehyde and formaldehyde.
  4. Diesel fuel, kerosene, gasoline.
  5. Ketones - acetone, methyl ethyl ketone.
  6. Coal tar.
  7. Oil paints.
  8. Polyesters that are used as epoxy resin hardeners.

It is worth listing those compounds that will not harm Penoplex:

  1. Various alcohols and substances based on them, including paints.
  2. All types of acids (inorganic and organic).
  3. Bleaching powder.
  4. Saline solutions.
  5. Water and water-based paints.
  6. Alkalis.
  7. Ammonia, propane, butane.
  8. Freons.
  9. Carbon dioxide and oxygen.
  10. Cement based solutions.
  11. Vegetable and animal oils, as well as paraffins.

In addition, it can be noted that Penoplex has high biostability - it is not subject to rotting and decomposition.

Marking "Penoplex"

Previously, the marking had a letter in the first place, followed by numbers, for example, M35 and M45. The modern designation is as indicated in the table above, that is, 31.31C, 35, 45 and 45C.

  1. Penoplex 31 has fairly low compressive strength, so it is not used in areas where high loads are expected. Most often it is used for insulating containers and various pipelines.
  2. Material marked 31C is also not very durable and is intended for insulating internal walls. Its difference from 31 lies in the higher degree of flammability of the material.
  3. "Penoplex" 35 has fairly high strength and good thermal insulation qualities, therefore it is considered universal. They insulate walls, foundations, floors and pipes.
  4. "Penoplex" 45 is used for insulation of runways, arrangement of road surfaces, thermal insulation of deep foundations, floors in production workshops and other premises with high dynamic loads. The density of this material allows it to withstand increased loads, and its water resistance prevents coatings from deforming due to temperature changes.
  5. 45WITH has characteristics close to “Penoplex” - 45 in terms of strength and thermal insulation, but insulation with this marking is usually chosen for mounting on walls industrial premises with large volumes.

Along with digital marking, there is another line in which the characteristics of Penoplex are as close as possible to its operational purpose.

Sometimes marking is done a little differently, and it is much easier to understand.

  • “Penoplex – Wall” has a density in the range of 25 ÷ 32 kg/m³ and is intended for fastening to external and internal walls, as well as for insulating partitions and plinths, which increases energy saving and the quality of sound insulation of a building.

"Penoplex" for wall insulation

If insulation is carried out outside the building, then after fixing the insulation and sealing the seams between the slabs, it is recommended to apply plaster on top of Penoplex or cover it with one of the facade materials, such as lining, siding or decorative tiles.

  • "Penoplex - Foundation" has a density of 29 ÷ 33 kg/m³ and is used for insulating foundations and surfaces in basements. The material is quite dense and water-resistant, as it is designed to insulate precisely these building elements. It is also used for thermal insulation of septic tanks that are not too deep and there is a risk of freezing.

  • "Penoplex - Roofing" is produced for insulation of rafter or flat roofs. In addition, it is also suitable for insulating attic floors. The density of this brand of material is 28 ÷ 33 kg/m³, so it is quite light and will not put a large load on the rafter system.

  • "Penoplex - Comfort" has a density of 25 ÷ 35 kg/m³ and is used for insulating the walls of apartments, balconies and loggias, as well as surfaces in private houses and such premises with high humidity like baths and saunas. The density of the material is low, but it is quite sufficient for residential buildings, since it will not be subjected to heavy loads.

  • "Penoplex - 45" has a density of 35 ÷ 47 kg/m3 and its purpose has already been discussed above. But besides this, it is used to insulate the floors of garages and flat roofs, on which sports grounds and even parking lots are organized.

Basics of Penoplex insulation technology

In order for the insulation to fully cope with the tasks assigned to it, it is necessary to follow the technology of its installation on certain elements of the structure.

Insulation of walls outside

From correct installation"Penoplex" on the walls outside will depend not only on the preservation of heat in the premises of the house, but also on the health of its residents. Unfortunately, in violation of technology, to save money, many builders attach insulation only to special fastenings - dowels with wide caps, which are called “fungi”. Such installation will not only not insulate the walls, but will also contribute to the appearance of mold or fungal colonies inside the home, which can grow and penetrate inside the wall material. This happens because the dew point shifts due to the loose fit of the insulation material to the wall. Therefore, if you have already decided to carry out insulation, then you should do it according to all the rules.

  • The first thing you need to start working with is preparing the surfaces for installation of Penoplex. The wall needs to be cleaned of old plaster, dirt and dust. Then it is primed with antifungal solutions.

If, after cleaning the surfaces, obvious deformations or unevenness are discovered, they must be leveled with a layer of plaster, otherwise the slabs will not fit tightly to the wall. After the wall is leveled and dried, it should be primed again.

  • "Penoplex" begins to be installed from the bottom of the wall, and in order for the first row to stand perfectly straight, an L-shaped starting profile, on which they will carefully stand insulation boards material .

  • Next, comes the installation of the first row of material on the wall. The slabs are fixed to the surface using special adhesive solutions that are applied directly to the slab. After that, it presses well against the wall.

Installation of "Penoplex" is carried out according to the brickwork scheme, and there should be no gaps between the slabs. If there are any left, they must be filled out. polyurethane foam after the main glue has dried.

  • Next, after the slabs are glued, they must be secured with plastic dowels—“fungi.” To do this, holes are drilled in the wall directly through the insulation, into which a part of the dowel is installed. hat, then a plastic nail is driven into it. You will need 5 ÷ 6 such fastenings per m²; if necessary, their number can be increased. The caps of the fasteners must be flush with the surface of the insulation, that is, pressed into it to the thickness of the cap.

  • After this, it is recommended to strengthen the corners with perforated metal corners. This must be done because the material on the corner parts of the house is damaged first.
  • Next comes the stage of surface reinforcement. In order for the plaster solution to have good adhesion to insulation boards, you need to walk through them sandpaper with large grains.

Then a cement-based plaster-adhesive composition is applied to the surface from the top of the wall, onto which a reinforcing fiberglass mesh is fixed. It is well leveled and embedded in the first layer applied to the slabs.

Wall reinforcement on top of Penoplex

  • The first layer with reinforcing mesh must dry well and only after that the second leveling plaster layer is applied. It is well leveled, and if it is planned to be coated with paint, it is brought to a smooth state using putty compounds.

If relief plaster is applied to the surface or decorative tiles are laid, then ideal smoothness of the surface is not needed - high-quality leveling is sufficient.

Insulation of the walls of a balcony or loggia

Insulation of internal walls, as well as balconies, is carried out in the same way as external ones, but balcony surfaces have their own characteristics when insulated.

The joints of the glued and fixed insulation must be covered with foil tape or covered with polyurethane foam.

Next, when there are no cold bridges left, you can fasten another layer of foil insulation on top and cover the walls with clapboard or plasterboard. Another option is to apply finishing plaster directly on top of Penoplex.

Roof thermal insulation

The process of roof insulation occurs during the construction phase or during reconstruction.

1 – Board cladding.

2 – Lathing.

3 – Vapor barrier membrane.

4 – “Penoplex”.

5 – Rafter leg.

6 – Windproof film.

7 – Counter-lattice.

8 – Roof covering.

In the presented version, the entire “pie” is laid on plank sheathing, fixed on the attic side, on which a vapor barrier membrane is laid.

  1. Penoplex is mounted between the rafter legs. If there are gaps between these elements, they must be filled with polyurethane foam.
  2. Then the insulation layer is covered with windproof film.
  3. A counter-lattice is fixed on top of the rafters, on which the roofing material is laid.

When insulating the attic floor, Penoplex is placed between the beams on board sheathing, lined on the side of the house premises. The “pie” is compiled on the same principle as roofing insulation, that is, vapor barrier, “Penoplex”, waterproofing film, plank flooring of the attic floor.

Thermal insulation of concrete floor

Due to its high density, this insulation can be glued to concrete surface flooring in the apartment, for example, under laminate or parquet boards.

An adhesive mass is applied to the cleaned and primed floor, onto which Penoplex slabs with fastening grooves and tenons are glued. This method will help not only insulate, but also soundproof room, and also level the floor surface.

Laying Penoplex slabs on the floor

Another option for floor insulation with Penoplex can be its installation between joists fixed to the floor. This is how thermal insulation is produced when it is planned to lay a plank floor on top of it. a similar method is usually used in a private house, since in an apartment the ceiling height is limited to 2700 mm, and a layer of floor insulation will reduce this parameter by another 80 ÷ 100 mm.

Domestic analogues of the material

If “Penoplex” is a patented brand of insulation, then other analogues of such material have been developed by Russian technologists based on existing compositions.

"Technoplex"

This domestic insulation is designed for installation on any surface of a private home, and is also well suited for the “warm floor” system. Technoplex is produced using nanotechnology, using graphite, which can reduce the thermal conductivity of the insulation and increase the strength of the slabs.

Technoplex packaging

This material, unlike Penoplex, has a gray-silver color, but meets all the necessary requirements for the former.

"Technoplex" is produced in the form of slabs with a thickness of 100,50,40,30 and 20 mm. The slabs have joint grooves and tenons, which allow them to be assembled into a single covering that has no gaps - this avoids the formation of cold bridges.

After installing the Technoplex on an insulated surface, it should be covered with decorative material, since ultraviolet rays are quite destructive for it.

« Polyspen »

Another analogue of “Penoplex” is the domestically produced insulation “Polyspen”. This material is produced in three versions, which differ in technical characteristics - thermal conductivity, compressive strength and flammability:

— “Polyspen 45”

— “Polyspen 35”

— "Polyspen Standard"

The numbers included in the marking determine the density of the insulation - these are 45 kg/m³ and 35 kg/m³.

Polispen is also considered a worthy competitor to Penoplex

The complex of ingredients that make up the material includes fire retardants, which significantly reduce the flammability of the insulation.

— “Polyspen 35” is used for insulation and sound insulation load-bearing walls buildings, as well as for internal partitions.

— “Polyspen 45” is suitable for thermal insulation of floors in a house or garage, as well as for road surfaces that bear heavy loads - its density allows them to withstand them without problems.

— “Polyspen Standard” is excellent for insulating rooms where such quality as reduced flammability is especially necessary - this is the “warm floor” system, garage floors, attic floors.

The slabs are produced in thicknesses of 100, 80, 60, 50, 40, 30 and 20 mm, so from them you can choose the option that is suitable for a specific insulation area.

In conclusion, I would like to say that it is better to purchase heat-insulating material in specialized stores that can present a quality certificate for the products they sell. When buying it on “wild” markets, you can easily run into a fake. Therefore, you should not take risks, since, having saved pennies, you can later pay with your own health. And also - no matter where the material is purchased, it is recommended to first conduct a quality test by purchasing one slab. In contact with open flame 0

Of modern thermal insulators, penoplex is considered the most effective. This insulating material is made from extruded polystyrene, which automatically makes it cheap, but superior in technical characteristics, such as moisture absorption and sound insulation, and other heat insulators.

Production of penoplex and types of material

The production of penoplex is organized using the following technology: small polystyrene granules in a sealed chamber are exposed to high temperatures (130 0 C-140 0 C), as a result of which they melt, and after adding blowing agents they foam. Porophores are synthetic additives that, when heated, release nitrogen and carbon dioxide, which, after the penoplex cools, turn into frozen air bubbles, evenly distributed throughout the material.

Components of blowing agents for the production of extruded polystyrene foam (penoplex):

Cured foam may contain some synthetic fillers, the presence of which determines the direction of application of the insulation - for walls, foundations, etc. The most common additives are flame retardants to increase fire safety (reduce the degree of flammability), antioxidants to protect the material from oxidation in the open air, antistatic substances to relieve static and dynamic stress during the operation of the insulation, light stabilizers (protection from negative influence UV radiation), modifying additives, etc.

Polystyrene foam is pressed under pressure from the extruder chamber onto a conveyor for final formation into slabs or blocks. The percentage of gases in the insulation reaches 98% of the total volume of the finished penoplex, so the products are light in weight with impressive dimensions. Dimensions for each functional line of insulation are given in the tables below.

The small size of the pores (0.1-0.3 mm) and their complete isolation from each other guarantees high thermal insulation performance of any brand of penoplex. For different construction projects, it is necessary to select the appropriate series and brands of insulation, since structures can be operated under different conditions:

  1. Brand “K” is designed for insulation of pitched or flat roofs and roofs. Specific gravity(density) series “K” - 28-33 kg/m 3;
  2. Series “C” – insulation for internal and external walls with a substance density of 25-35 kg/m3;
  3. Brand “F”, basements and basements. Material with high moisture resistance, biological stability and specific gravity ≥37 kg/m 3 ;
  4. Penoplex brand "Comfort" is a universal series of insulation with a density of 25-35 kg/m 3. Direction of application – insulation of apartments, houses, basements, balconies and loggias;
  5. Brand “45” has the highest frost resistance and strength, specific weight 35-47 kg/m 3. Designed for thermal insulation of road surfaces, runways, and other heavily loaded objects and structures.

A separate category produces sandwich panels, which are an improved thermal insulator for insulating attics and attics, facades and foundations of buildings. The sandwich panel has 2-3 layers and a cement bonded particle board as the bottom layer.

Operational and technical properties of penoplex, advantages and disadvantages

  1. Thermal conductivity – 0.03 Wm·0 C, the indicator does not decrease even with strong humidification;
  2. Water resistance – 0.4-0.6% when immersed in water for 24 hours and for a month;
  3. The vapor permeability of the material can be compared with the same indicators of roofing felt with a layer thickness of 20 mm;
  4. Chemical passivity: penoplex does not react to contact with building mortars and most aggressive substances. Substances with which penoplex contact is contraindicated: kerosene, acetone, formaldehyde, benzene, xylene, toluene, formaldehyde, methyl ethyl ketone, ether, diesel fuel, gasoline, tar, paints and epoxy resins;
  5. High mechanical resistance to stretching, compression, tensile forces and multi-vector pressure. The compressive strength of penoplex is 0.2-0.5 MPa;
  6. Biological neutrality - penoplex does not develop mold, does not decompose and does not rot;
  7. Wide range of operating temperatures - from -50 to +75 0 C. The temperature range for each brand is indicated on the packaging;
  8. Flammability groups for different brands– different, from G1 to G4, depending on operating conditions;
  9. Environmentally friendly material without the use of phenols and freons in the production;
  10. Guaranteed service life ≥55 years without noticeable loss in properties.

Advantages of penoplex:

  1. Thermal conductivity properties make it possible to use penoplex even in the Far North - multiple freezing/thawing cycles of the material do not affect its characteristics;
  2. Light weight makes transportation, warehousing, storage and insulation of the object easier, allows you to lighten the foundation and not strengthen the ceilings;
  3. Simple installation without the help of specialists and special tools - penoplex can be easily cut with a regular hacksaw or cutter;
  4. Safety and environmental friendliness - you can work with the material without personal protective equipment;
  5. Low cost of all brands of insulation. Even with a large consumption of heat insulator, the costs of its purchase and installation pay off in 2-3 seasons.

Disadvantages of penoplex:

  1. Low fire safety - material of any flammability group, even with fire retardant additives, can catch fire and release caustic toxic smoke;
  2. Low coefficient of vapor permeability, and under certain weather conditions - negative. Therefore, it is not recommended to use penoplex for internal insulation of house walls. To save optimal conditions operation of the insulation, it is necessary to ensure forced ventilation in the house and ventilation of the channels in the walls insulated with penoplex;
  3. Destruction of material upon impact ultraviolet radiation- sun rays. It is necessary to protect the insulation layer with plaster or other methods;
  4. Due to the smooth surface, the adhesion of penoplex to mortars is quite low, so the insulation should only be attached to dowels or special expensive glue, but not to mortars.

Thermal insulation material “Wall” - properties and characteristics

The “Wall” brand is a renamed “Penoplex 31” insulation with fire retardant additives, which has been improved for use in insulating “wet” facades, building foundations, plinths and basements, partitions and walls of houses outside and inside, roofs and attic spaces. Characteristics of penoplex brand “Wall” are in the table below:

Insulation brand "Foundation" - parameters and properties

The “Foundation” brand is a renamed Penoplex 35 insulation without fire retardant additives, which can now be used to create thermal insulation for the bases and plinths of buildings, blind areas and basements. The strength, waterproofness and thermal conductivity of the "series" are its main advantages. The characteristics of the “Foundation” are given in the table below:

Penoplex "Roof" - properties and characteristics

Penoplex insulation of the “Roofing” series is a renamed material “Penoplex 35”, which is recommended for use in the insulation of pitched and flat roofs any design. The use of the “Roof” series makes the further operation of the roof as simplified as possible, since the reliability and long service life of the insulation minimize the possibility of repairing the roof surface. The popularity of this innovative insulating material is also due to the fact that greenhouses and summer gardens- such trends are now in fashion. Penoplex can withstand such high loads that it doesn’t care about soil loads of up to several tons. Characteristics of the foam insulation brand “Roof” are in the table below:

“Comfort” is a universal brand of heat insulator

Brand of heat insulator “Comfort” - properties and characteristics

Penoplex "Comfort" is a modified and improved "Penoplex 31C" with universal characteristics. The material is actively used for insulation country houses, country houses and cottages. High speed installation and minimal labor costs popularize the insulation among private homeowners - it is used to insulate the subfloor, foundation and basement of a house, basement and roof, walls and partitions from the inside and outside of the building. Penoplex "Comfort" has high levels of moisture resistance and thermal conductivity. In the penoplex series line, the Comfort brand is recognized as universal.

Penoplex protects the soil from heaving when it freezes - when the soil is insulated with this material, the freezing point of the soil will rise. This series is optimal for insulating road and railway surfaces, runways and technical areas of airfields. Comfort slabs retain their unique characteristics throughout the entire period of operation. Characteristics of the “Comfort” penoplex insulation brand are in the table below:

It is a misconception to think that penoplex and polystyrene foam are brother materials. Some properties of penoplex can be equated to the parameters of polystyrene foam, but not flammability and water absorption.

Manufacturers have long mastered the production of both non-flammable polystyrene foam and high-burning polystyrene foam. But the truth is that penoplex cannot spontaneously ignite, and in an open fire zone it will only melt, releasing carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO 2) gases. If the fire is extinguished, the penoplex will not even smolder.
