A couple of years ago, ours decided to send us tangible greetings from tropical Thailand to our harsh homeland. And then, among other things, I got Tiger Balm - white tiger balm, which will become the main character of this review.

Having received my rightful gift, turning the jar of potion in my hands with disappointment, I carefully put it away on the shelf, where I safely forgot it for almost two years. To be honest, I didn’t really believe in the miraculous power of the Asian wonder, and besides, I didn’t feel any particular need for it at that time.

But I felt it much later, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Tiger Balm: he’s not from Thailand at all

In the century before last in Rangoon, Burma, there lived a certain master O Chu Kin, and he was famous Chinese herbalist. It was he who created became famous subsequently Tiger Balm White Ointment, using ancient medicinal formulas used to make rubs for Chinese emperors.

Invented and he established a trade in warming compounds by opening a medical shop. After the death of the old man, the business was continued and even expanded by two of Kin’s sons - O Bun Ho and O Bun Pa, to whom the store passed along with my father's secret recipes.

The brothers were lucky: they successfully traded with Malaysia and Singapore, and at the beginning of the 20th century they even organized the production of their drug in the island state. Factory given the name Hawpar, the symbol of the brand was the tiger - the personification of vitality.

Later modest enterprise transformed into an entire corporation. The company grew and became stronger, and now noticeable jars with a tiger are produced in Vietnam, China, and India. Today, it is known all over the world that white and red Tiger Balm are one of the most effective local analgesics and antiseptics for various diseases.

Compositions of red and white tiger ointments

The list of components and the effect of the two drugs are similar, the only difference is in the proportions of essential oils included in the formulation. By the way, I once heard something to the effect that they were made from the remains of animals. Maybe this was the reason for such a long and undeserved dusting of the jar on the shelf...

All this is mixed with Vaseline, paraffin and ozokerite. The last ingredient is also called mountain wax - it is extracted from rocks and is actively used in physiotherapy.

And no signs of animal origin!

In addition to the above-mentioned components, the red ointment contains red pepper extract, which provides a strong warming effect. White has more of a cooling effect.

Tiger Balm: instructions for use

The spectrum is quite wide:

  1. Pain relief for muscles and joints;
  2. Resorption of hematomas;
  3. Relieving itching and redness from insect bites;
  4. Elimination of heartburn and spasms in the epigastrium;
  5. Help with headaches, nasal congestion and cough;
  6. Warming up athletes' muscles before training and helping with muscle strains;
  7. Bone regeneration during fractures;
  8. Relief of radiculitis, rheumatism, osteochondrosis, polyarthritis;
  9. Rubbing the limbs during paralysis and numbness.

The product should be applied to the painful area of the body up to four times a day, lightly rubbing, until complete recovery. For example:

  • When coughing, rub your chest, back and neck
  • If you have a runny nose, do inhalations: boil a small amount of water, add a little balm and inhale the vapors, covered with a towel
  • for heartburn and pain in the abdomen, apply the composition to the abdominal cavity and chest
  • when your neck and back hurt, rub them and wrap them in woolen cloth.

Like any medicine, there are a number of contraindications.

  1. Do not use on the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose and mouth. In case of accidental contact, rinse with running water.
  2. Do not use on damaged skin areas.
  3. Not recommended for pregnant and nursing mothers, as well as persons prone to allergies to the components included in the composition.
  4. Contraindicated for children under three years of age.
  5. It is prohibited at high body temperatures, and should not be applied to moles, warts, pustules and neoplasms.
My review

Man is a fragile creature, prone to various illnesses. Here I am: I was fastening and fastening, and suddenly - everything at once. The doctors treated me for an illness for a month without much success, until I started using unconventional remedies. Among them was the potion in question.

I opened the hexagonal jar and inside there was an opaque light mass. The smell is desperately reminiscent of the Vietnamese “Star” familiar from childhood.

In my personal practice, I have found several uses for Thai tiger balm white.

  • I started using it as a remedy for headaches. Sinusitis gave mild pain in the area of the frontal and paranasal sinuses. I lubricated these places with balm 3 times a day and received significant relief. It’s pleasantly refreshing, but for a while it “eats” your eyes, meaning you have to squint. It’s better to sit, or even better to lie down for 15 minutes, closing your eyelids.
  • From numerous intramuscular injections, the injection sites hurt - there were bruises and decent bumps. You can sit, but lying on your back is very painful.
    Heparin ointment, troxevasin gel, iodine mesh and compresses at night - all of them discolored the bruises, but did not reduce the size of the seals at all. But rubbing Martino helped. The hematomas dissolved, although not before our eyes, but already on the second day they noticeably decreased.
  • And off we go: my husband’s back hurts - give me Tiger Balm here. Calming down cervical osteochondrosis is the same. A good effect, especially at night and especially where you need to “warm up”.
  • My parent uses red tiger balm to relieve musculoskeletal pain. The reviews are extremely positive, noting the warming and analgesic effect. I am inclined to believe her, because she is a serious and skeptical lady.

But the drug has with a tiger on the label and an unpleasant feature: a pungent camphor smell that not everyone likes. If you use it at home, it’s not a problem, but in a group I personally wouldn’t risk it. It’s a pity, because it really relieves headaches when applied to the temples.

One problem: there are four people in the house, but there is only one bottle, and that one is small. What I mean is that our lifesaver is running out. I would buy it again, but I'm afraid I'll run into a fake on the Internet. Looks like it's time to ask my accomplice Martha to urgently send a couple more elegant hexagonal packages.

I dare to hope that my modest experience will be useful to some of the readers, and with that I say goodbye until future monologues.

With wishes of health, from windy February Siberia, 2017, Julia.

Where to buy

“Accomplice” Martha could not leave Julie’s publication without this important part. Therefore, I shamelessly intervene and give information.

In Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union: we traditionally turn to online stores. When it comes to medicines, it is especially important not to run into counterfeits, because the subject of this review is both a popular thing and not so cheap as to completely discourage the desire to falsify oneself.

  1. I would not trust all sorts of sites like Avito or sales advertisements on social networks, etc. random options. In my opinion, it is safer to order from Thailand, unless there is a well-established Thai shop in your city. beauty stores.
  2. In Cambodia it’s similar, only there are no 7-11 here.

For this we finally bow.

With wishes for healthy joints, pleasant smells and all kinds of prosperity in general, yours sincerely, room healer, Marta.
