Installing blinds in the toilet is the simplest, most rational, convenient and ergonomic solution that helps hide plumbing communications.

Why install blinds in the toilet?

If we're talking about about the toilet, in the vast majority of cases it means a small, cramped space, with a bunch of pipes for water and sewerage that bulge ugly against the wall. To hide them, many people covered this part of the room with plastic or plasterboard, and in case of an emergency, they left a small hatch through which they could reach the taps. But as time has shown, such a solution is not entirely practical, or rather, not practical at all. In the event of a leak or the slightest malfunction, it was necessary to disassemble the entire superstructure, fix the problems, and then, in essence, do new renovation in the toilet, which means time, effort and significant financial costs.

Modern manufacturers have responded to such vicissitudes of fate, taken into account the specifics of cramped space, and today the market offers compact, reliable and easy-to-clean blinds for the toilet, which provide not only functionality, but also the aesthetics of the space. Of course, purchasing plumbing roller shutters will require some investment of money, but, firstly, it is not that expensive, and secondly, all costs will be more than justified during their operation.

Design

Blinds for the toilet are compact and beautiful design, which allows you to hide pipes and takes up almost no space in an already cramped room. The whole system is:

  • canvas made of lamellas;
  • box - a cassette in which the curtain is hidden;
  • side guides along which the canvas moves.

A small deadbolt or lock is installed at the bottom, the latter being preferred in public toilets. You can adjust the position of the blinds manually, using a special handle, or remotely, via the remote control, if the design includes an electric curtain rod. The automatic drive is very convenient and helps to significantly save energy and time.

The canvas can be:

  • plastic;
  • made of aluminum alloys;
  • made of thin steel slats;
  • wooden.

Wooden blinds cannot be called a rational and practical solution for the toilet, even though they are reliable protective layer. If there is insufficient ventilation in the room, such models warp and quickly lose appearance from dampness.

Plastic products are not afraid of difficult operating conditions, do not rot or deform, and are very convenient for installation in home toilets. But they can break under significant mechanical stress, so in public places it is better to install anti-vandal blinds made of aluminum or steel with a lock. It should be noted that these products are not only durable, but also aesthetically pleasing, thanks to modern methods coloring. And in addition, a reliable protective layer prevents metal corrosion, so aluminum and metal blinds can last a very long time, maintaining aesthetics.

Installation Features

Blinds are installed in the opening:

  • built-in;
  • invoices.

Depending on the model, you can attach:

  • into the opening, box out;
  • into the opening, the box inside, if the communications are far enough away and there is enough space for the cassette;
  • overhead - attached only with the box facing outwards.

And this is where the fun begins. The fact is that the opening must have the correct geometry:

  • two vertical surfaces strictly parallel to each other - guides are attached to them;
  • horizontal - the ceiling or the rear vertical wall, depending on the method of fastening the cornice box. The contact angles of the surfaces must be strictly 90°.

Only these conditions guarantee the flawless operation of the blinds, since the canvas has a strict width; if the vertical guides are skewed, then in a narrow place the curtain simply will not close, and in a wide place an ugly gap will form. Even minor distortions will not allow the canvas to ride smoothly on the rails; it will cling, and eventually the blinds will break. There are three options here:

  • level surfaces;
  • make a special built-in closet or box, into which you can then install blinds;
  • select the invoice model.

Installation instructions

Installation of blinds should be carried out after repairs in the toilet. If the model is on an electric cornice, then it is better to turn to the help of specialists; they will secure the structure and debug its operation, while also taking on warranty obligations for service and they will fix problems free of charge if they arise during operation. At self-installation no one will give any guarantees. Simple models with manual drive, you can safely install it yourself:

  • Assemble the box according to the manufacturer's instructions, install the inner shaft.
  • Mount the cassette on the back wall or on the ceiling, depending on design features opening.

Cut out a part from plywood or laminated chipboard with a recess for the supply to the toilet, and sew it on the lower part of the communications, where the large horizontal sewer pipe runs. The width of the part covers the entire opening, the height depends on the length of the blinds. If you have an opening with a height of 240 cm, and the canvas together with the box is 180 cm, then the corresponding height of the part is 60 cm (240-180).

  • Measure the height of the vertical walls from the lining to the frame, transfer the size to the guides, and saw them off. Try it on locally.
  • Drill holes - 1 at the top and bottom, at a distance of 15-30 mm from the edge, and several intermediate ones, at a distance of 400-600 mm between them.
  • Attach the part to the opening, mark the wall, make holes and insert the plastic part of the dowel, be sure to be flush, even the slightest protrusion will not allow you to press the guide tightly and will interfere with the operation of the canvas, which will subsequently lead to breakdowns.
  • Screw the guides, be sure to check the geometry with a level and plumb lines.
  • Measure the width of the horizontal lower slope, measure and screw the bottom strip, if provided for by the design.
  • Place the blade on the shaft, fasten it and screw it onto the roller.
  • When the curtain is fully raised, insert the bottom edges into the guides and lower the curtain along them.
  • Insert the protective cover onto the box and close the fastening points with special plugs.

The space inside can be equipped as a cabinet with shelves, but it is important that there is a 10 mm gap between the panel and the outer end of the internal elements. Look detailed video, which clearly shows all the stages of installing blinds in a toilet.

To hide communications, you can use louvered doors; for this you will have to make a cabinet or install bars around the perimeter of the opening. This option is suitable if there is enough space between the toilet and the opening to open the flaps. Usually there is no such space left below; there, to cover the pipes, you can attach a blind grille, but above the toilet barrel you can safely install opening doors.

Good to know: Hinges for hanging can be internal or overhead; in the first case, the sashes should be made according to internal dimensions opening - 2-3 mm on each side, the sides of the cabinet will remain visible. Doors with overhead hinges are made according to the outer dimensions of the opening - 2-3 mm on each side, the side parts will be hidden.

If the geometry of the opening is far from ideal and it is not yet possible to level the walls, it is recommended to hang vertical blinds to cover the pipes. The same solution is relevant for hiding a narrow space under the bathroom, where it is almost impossible to install horizontal models.

Bathroom and toilet - rooms where a sewer riser is located in a small area, water pipes, valves, counters. It is impossible to do without these communications, and they do not add beauty to the room. Some people hide them behind false walls, but this is not very convenient, because during emergency situations partitions have to be broken. Recently, designers are increasingly offering another, more practical way to improve the interior of a bathroom. Let's take a closer look at how to close pipes in the bathroom and toilet using blinds

Rear wall in the toilet: finishing rules

This article is about how you can decorate the back wall of a toilet or combined bathroom. In it I will present several options for finishing and using the wall, and also share my thoughts on in what cases it is possible to hide water supply and sewerage risers, and when this is completely contraindicated.

General information

For Soviet-built houses, the most typical layout is a toilet with water supply and sewage risers located at the rear wall. Steel pipes They rust over time, and even with regular painting, many years of paint layers are a dubious decoration for the bathroom.

To cast iron sewer pipe time is not so merciless, however, even after 20 - 40 years of service it rarely shines with beauty. In such conditions, the temptation to hide the risers by building a light partition between them and the toilet is quite understandable.

Partition? Excuse me, sir

What is this instruction related to? There are several reasons.

Solid partition means complete lack of ventilation. Without her on the riser cold water condensation will form (water vapor penetrates perfectly through drywall and aerated concrete, which are usually used to create partitions). Constant contact with moisture will greatly reduce the service life of a steel pipe.

Moreover, it’s unlikely that your neighbors below will be happy about the wet spot that has appeared on their ceiling and the plaster that has begun to peel off.

In addition, the partition will have to be dismantled when need for access to risers.

There are many reasons for this:

  • Steel pipes periodically leak - along the seam of an electric-welded pipe, at a thin section of a welded joint, or simply in the place where the pipe has been exposed to moisture for the longest time;
  • There is such a thing as the planned replacement of risers and water supply lines. Sooner or later, friendly plumbers will come to you and, when they see it, they will be upset and say a lot of offensive words to the hapless builder;
  • Sewer pipes often collapse under the weight of the pipe resting on them. This requires replacing a section of the riser or at least installing a bandage;
  • A leak in the sewer riser can also be caused by subsidence of the socket in the ceiling. What is especially unpleasant is that this leak occurs periodically, when the riser overflows due to the simultaneous flushing of a pair of toilets or foam formed during washing. Repair work and in this case they will require access to the riser;
  • For some blockages, the only way to clear it is to open the riser and remove the stuck object from it with your own hands;
  • Finally, on the outermost floors (and in high-rise buildings - every three floors) on sewer riser Audits for cleaning have been installed. They (like, in fact, the risers) belong to the common property of the residents of the house, and free access to them is necessary.

Sometimes it's still possible

Is it really the only decoration that an apartment owner can afford is a curtain on the back wall of the toilet?

Comrades, not everything is so bleak. You can still hide the boners you're fed up with. But with a few very serious caveats:

  1. Corrosion-resistant steel pipes must be replaced with material resistant to overheating and water hammer with maintenance-free connections. In houses with centralized hot water supply, only corrugated stainless steel and copper pipe on solder fittings. In buildings with boilers, polypropylene and metal-plastic may be added to the club membership list;
  2. The risers must be replaced not from floor to floor, but at least from the toilet above yours to the toilet below your neighbor. Steel pipes rust most quickly in the ceiling;
  3. The cast iron sewer riser is being replaced with a plastic one, and all sockets must be fixed with clamps to avoid spontaneous uncoupling;
  4. If there is a revision, it is mounted opposite it in the partition Luke. Its dimensions should provide free access to the inspection cover;

  1. At the bottom and at the top the partition is supplied with a pair ventilation grilles.

Design options

Apartment

So, how to make a back wall in a panel toilet apartment building? Here are some ideas.

The partition consists entirely of inspection hatches for tiles (euro hatches). They provide access to risers along their entire height. When closed, the doors are completely invisible and are no different from a tiled main wall.

The space near the risers is used for storing washing powder, cleaning products, etc. household chemicals. High doors and removable shelves allow full access to the risers if necessary.

Another cabinet is made of clapboard.

Variation on the same theme. The front wall of the cabinet is made of lining and coated with furniture varnish. Ventilation is ensured by the gaps between the wall and the door.

This idea can only be approved. Plastic is more appropriate in rooms with high humidity: It does not swell and is easy to clean.

Instead of a door there are blinds.

If for some reason you don’t like the idea of cabinet doors behind the toilet, no problem: hang blinds instead. They will hide the pipes without interfering with their ventilation.

A private house

How to make a back wall in a toilet in a private house?

Here, nothing limits our imagination: sewerage and water supply lines can simply be moved to an adjacent technical room or to the basement.

When installing a water supply system from scratch, you can immediately use materials that do not require maintenance of fittings. In this case, the water supply and sewerage systems can be hidden behind a non-removable partition.

I'm going to share with you the back wall decor for the closets in my home.

In the photo there is a toilet on the attic floor.

The attic with a sloping roof allowed me to use the space between vertical wall toilet and a sloping roof to create a pair of niches from gypsum plasterboard. Shelf covering - tile. Niches are used for storage toilet paper and the notorious household chemicals. The drywall is painted with a “rubber” waterproofing material, making it splash-resistant.

The wall is tiled. The sewage system is assembled with sealant and sealed in a box. It also contains a polypropylene water supply line.
