The last option is interesting because it can perform both decorative and practical functions. Installing a secret door would be appropriate if you want to create a stylish, minimalist interior. Also, using this design you can make a room hidden from prying eyes. What types of secret doors are there - read on.

Hidden doors allow you to truly unique interior. They absolutely do not stand out against the background of the walls or look like a decorative element of the room.

No need to decorate already finished door, you can order an option with a design that suits you, for example, a door designed to match the color of your wallpaper.

At first glance, it may seem that a secret door is a difficult-to-install element that cannot be made with your own hands. However, with a little imagination and effort, you can install invisible doors yourself.

Basic requirements that must be met when masking a door structure:

  1. The door structure should be disguised as the surrounding finish. To create a favorable basis for decoration, door frame with canvas can be pasted over with plasterboard.
  2. Loops and sliding mechanism must be a hidden type. Otherwise, these small details will give away the entire structure.
  3. The door handle should also not be visible. You can use mortise fittings or a rotary mechanism.
  4. To make the door as invisible as possible, you need to install a piece of plinth under it instead of a threshold.
  5. If you mask the door with a mirror, a picture, or want to make it a single structure with the wall, then it should be installed flush with the wall.

These rules will allow you to make the door in the interior of the room invisible to prying eyes. Some options will simply align the door with the wall, while others will make it a real highlight of the interior.

You can achieve the effect of door invisibility by the most different ways, however, it is important to fulfill the basic conditions of camouflage. Next, we will give you several options for installing an invisible door; you can use one of them, or, based on the main nuances, come up with your own.

Hidden invisible doors disguised as a wall or cabinet

One of the most popular ways to make invisible doors is to disguise the panel with the frame as a wall. This option looks the most natural and minimalistic. If you want to create an interior in a minimalist, hi-tech or modern style, then this method is perfect for you.

How to disguise a door as a wall:

  1. The easiest way to disguise a door is to cover it with wallpaper. You must use the same wallpaper that you used to decorate the walls. If canvases with large patterns are used for such finishing, they must be matched to the pattern on the walls.
  2. You can hide the door by painting it. This technique is appropriate if paint was also used to decorate the walls.
  3. Interior doors can be disguised with panels decorated to match the color of the walls.
  4. If you use colored inserts in the interior, then the door can be decorated to match one of them. In this case, the junction of the door and the wall will be almost invisible.
  5. If you decorate the door with tiles, then thanks to the seams between the ceramic elements door leaf will be almost impossible to distinguish from monolithic wall. This design is best suited for the bathroom. The tile must be chosen in such a way that it matches the style of the interior.

When disguising the door as a wall, you should think carefully about how it can be easily opened. Sliding panels can be installed even without a handle, and are suitable for opening doors mortise handles or a special mechanism.

One more interesting option, with which you can hide the door to the pantry or to any other room, is to install it on the door leaf of the cabinet. This option was most often used in ancient locks, and in order to open such a mechanism, it was necessary to turn one of the books. Nowadays it is not necessary to complicate the design so much; you can order a standard opening door made in the shape of a cabinet.

Using a closet you can disguise the entrance to the pantry, which very often spoils the overall interior of the room.

All decorative elements, located in such a cabinet must be attached to the shelves. For example, you can use mock-ups of books instead of actual literature.

A door decorated to look like a wall or cabinet is most invisible in general interior rooms. Such options are the most difficult to implement, but they look the same.

A secret door decorated with a mirror, painting or curtain

There are more simple options design of a hidden door. You can bring them to life with your own hands, even without experience in installation work.

Simple options for decorating doors:

  1. Decorating a door with a curtain is the simplest option for creating a hidden door. This design does not look so modern and original, but making the right choice textiles can make the interior more vibrant and interesting. Typically, curtains are used to disguise the old door leading to the pantry.
  2. Disguising doors as mirrors. This mirrored entrance structure, in addition to looking very original, also serves as a full-fledged mirror, so it is especially appropriate to decorate the entrance to the dressing room in this way. The handle on the door should either be made of the same mirror material, or be mortise. You can also use a prop frame instead of a pen.
  3. Also, to hide the door, you can decorate it with a picture. This interior element looks very unusual and interesting. You don't have to spend money on a real oil painting; you can simply decorate the canvas with a box of photo wallpapers decorated with frames.

Secret doors decorated in this way look no worse than canvases imitating a wall or cabinet. To make the doors in your apartment original and beautiful, you only need to use a little imagination and practical knowledge.

Pencil door hidden in the interior

Another option for installing a hidden door is to use hidden sliding doors. In this version, the compartment panels go deep into the wall.

The pencil door when closed is very noticeable, but when it is open and hidden inside the wall, it gives the impression of free passage. This design not only looks stylish, it also saves money. free space, since in open form does not form a dead zone.

There are two ways to make such an input structure. In the first case, the niche in which the door will be hidden is cut directly into the concrete wall. This option for installing a pencil case is very complicated and requires a lot of time.

Another way is to build a pencil case from plasterboard. To do this, a part is destroyed concrete wall, and in its place is built plasterboard construction, in which a niche is made for sliding doors.

Sliding doors that slide into walls are suitable for both classic and modern styles interior With their help, you can increase the space of a room, while separating it from other rooms. This type of hidden door is the most difficult to implement. However, thanks to its original appearance, it looks especially interesting.

Mounted flush into the wall. The doorway does not stand out, and its boundaries are almost invisible. The design decision was dictated fashion trends and the desire of users to hide the passage, creating a complete interior and personal space hidden from prying eyes. You can install such a door in a residential area, as well as in an administrative or commercial building. A secret door in a house or apartment can disguise a study, recreation room, bedroom, dressing room or other room that does not require guests to visit. But more often, the decision to install an invisible product is dictated by connoisseurs of modern interior art as a way to emphasize sophistication and style, but not with the goal of hiding rooms from guests.

An interior door, manufactured and installed with filigree precision, is one with the walls and interior of the room. Often it performs the function of zoning both in an apartment and in studios, hotels, and special-purpose premises.

Why is the door invisible?

Invisible doors are invisible because they are mounted on door hinges hidden installation, into a frame that does not extend beyond the boundaries of the opening. Like ordinary products, invisible ones are presented ready-made solutions, as well as models for decoration, which involve camouflage as interior decoration.

The manufacturer only primes door structures for finishing. Each model is “naked” and requires further finishing to match the wall. After purchasing a concealed door for painting, you can wallpaper it, plaster it, or paint it. So the opening is disguised and merges with general background. Depending on the opening mechanism, there may be a handle, but in the form of a vertical cut on the canvas.

The factory finish has an invisible fabric, but clearly visible boundaries. In some models, invisibility is not assumed at all; they are made of transparent, frosted or enameled glass. A door to order can be veneered, imitating Wall panels. But some users do not want to disguise the door and blend it with the general background, but order a model made of material opposite to the walls.

What are the pros and cons of hidden installation?

Doors for hidden installation have their own technical and aesthetic characteristics, which can be called the pros and cons of the design. The advantages include the following qualities:

  1. The invisible box imitates the solidity of the wall.
  2. The desire to hide a doorway may be due to various factors. The door does not fit into the style of the room and spoils the aesthetics of the interior, or there are many exits from the room, and the owner wants to leave only the main doors visible and hide the passages to the pantry, dressing room or cellar.
  3. Doesn't take up extra square meters.
  4. The absence of a platband allows you to install a hidden connector in the narrowest areas where a standard door cannot be installed.
  5. Fits into non-standard openings.
  6. When complex layout And engineering solution They don’t allow you to install a standard door, invisible is the only option. A door without platbands of hidden installation hides openings in floors where there are sloping ceilings, under staircases and in other atypical passages. Modification of a secret door may have different shape and size.
  7. Expand the light opening.
  8. Absence standard box provides free passage of light.
  9. Mounted in openings of any parameters.
  10. As already mentioned, the hidden mounting box is available in dozens of modifications and can be made to order. This makes it possible to frame both wide and narrow openings.
  11. Produced in a wide variety of designs.
  12. Only the elderly contingent of conservatives are not tired of boring traditional designs. But modern innovators strive to diversify the interior by introducing the most non-standard solutions. Doors with a hidden frame are part of the interior; they can emphasize minimalism or play the role of its decorative accent. So, a door can be a mirror, a shelf, a bookcase or a picture.

Disadvantages of hidden doors

The disadvantages of this type of door include:

  1. Installation in the early stages of renovation.
  2. It is impossible to install a hidden structure without repair, because installation involves removing the old finish and preparing the walls.
  3. Installation requires filigree precision.
  4. The size of the opening must exactly match the parameters of the product. You need to clarify these details, select a model and prepare the opening before starting repair work.
  5. Invisible lenses are invisible only from one side.
  6. After the invisible door is erected, it will merge with the wall on only one side. On the other hand, it can also be painted or wallpapered, but it will be buried in the wall and visually stand out. But this feature can be played to the advantage of the interior by experimenting with the texture and shade of the surface.
  7. Installing a frame exceeds the cost of installing a standard door.
  8. For those who want to save money on doors, it is better to immediately buy a traditional design. Installing a hidden door system is more difficult, and therefore the price for the work is higher.

In what cases is a hidden wall not appropriate?

No matter how much you would like to introduce a European novelty into your interior, sometimes installing invisible ones is impossible or undesirable. There is no need to hide the door where it does not fit into the style of the room. Models of invisible doors fit harmoniously into an interior decorated in the style of modernity, minimalism, modernism or high-tech, but the classics, which are characterized by palace luxury, can only be disrupted by invisible structures. Indeed, in such a classic composition, it is the massive doors with platbands, trim and panels that represent the accent and an important decorative element.

Also, there will be no fastening of the secret box good idea, if the owner plans to replace standard door. Installation of invisibles is a rather complex process that requires violation of building regulations. Therefore, it is carried out only when planning a full-scale renovation or redevelopment. If you start installing a secret box without preliminary repairs, the finish of the adjacent walls will be damaged.

If the floor is not ready or you are afraid of damaging it, then you need to make embedded elements to the level of the finished floor (usually 30 mm).

BEFORE completion finishing works premises.

If the installation does take place after the finishing work has been completed, it is necessary to provide for the possibility of bringing the level of the hidden box into a single plane with the wall. To do this, it is necessary to remove the layer of plaster around the opening, while observing the presence right angle when mating planes.

The minimum wall thickness is calculated based on the thickness of the box:

For a regular hidden INVISIBLE door: 82 mm.

For hidden reverse opening door REVERSE: 69 mm.

SECTIONAL BOXES

Installing a hidden box in an opening

The box is installed in the same plane with the wall along the front edge. If there are several doors nearby, then you need to take into account the ratio of the leaves on the upper level.

We fix the standing ones in the opening and hang the canvas, adjusting them in planes using hidden hinges. We set the gaps between the canvas and the box and foam.

Allowable clearances

According to GOST, the gap on the side of the lock is slightly larger than on the side of the hinges, since the door leaf needs to be opened more space.

On the hinge side 2-3 mm.

From the side of the lock 3-4 mm.

Top 2-3 mm.

For aesthetics, our installers always try to set equal gaps on top and sides, that is, 3 mm each.

Facing

After installation, wait for it to dry polyurethane foam, cut off the excess and begin preparing the structure for finishing. We plaster and cover it with plasterboard.

When calculating the dimensions of parts, a gap of 5 mm is allowed. On the side parts from the side adjacent to door frame if necessary, it is necessary to make a recess so that the part fits into the groove on the hidden box.

On the reverse side, to fix the parts framing the opening, you can attach a beam compensating the distance. Then use gypsum board to sheathe the back of the opening.

The groove on the Invisible box on the reverse side is 10 mm, designed for gypsum boards with a width of 9 mm.

Revers - 11 mm, designed accordingly for gypsum boards with a width of 10 mm.

After facing, we putty the joints with a gypsum mixture; to avoid cracks, it is recommended to glue fiberglass to the seams.

NON-STANDARD

Important: hidden hinges AGB Eclipse (made in Italy), which are included in the standard set of hidden doors, are installed on leaves weighing no more than 40 kg.

When installing a hidden door custom size it is necessary to take into account its weight and the presence of finishing. That is why up to 3 additional hinges are cut into panels higher than 2 meters at the Profil Doors factory.

Features of installing a hidden door “from yourself”

The REVERSE reverse opening box at any stage of repair requires additional preparation of the opening.

Due to the design features, it is necessary to cut 40-60 mm wide around the perimeter (depending on the width of the opening) and 10 mm deep.

The REVERSE kit comes with factory cut-outs for hinges and lock. The pillars are already cut to 45", they just need to be cut to height and assemble the pillars and the top jumper using special fastenings for tightening (supplied in the kit).

We place and secure the box in the opening, hang the canvas, adjust it in planes, and set the gaps.

It is important to take into account the presence of the rebate and set the gaps on both sides accordingly.

Technical dimensions of the Revers box

Front groove - 7 mm.

Rear groove - 11 mm.

Surely in childhood everyone dreamed of their own hidden, invisible room. But it was virtually impossible to realize this dream, because there must be some kind of door leading to this room that cannot be hidden. If you are still interested in this idea, pay attention to hidden doors - modern design solution, thanks to which you can not only hide your corner from prying eyes, but also decorate the interior profitably.

Design options

Invisible doors are made from completely various materials- acrylic, glass, wood, PVC, metal, can also be found in plasterboard - and each of these options has its own advantages and disadvantages. So, for example, PVC doors are classically equipped with double-glazed windows or closed with a panel (perhaps you could see them on someone’s balcony). Perhaps their main drawback is not particularly invisible appearance , hiding them can be very, very difficult.

Aluminum is difficult to process and paint. Glass ones, by the way, are durable - due to professional processing they do not scratch and are easy to clean; this is no longer the fragile glass from which the glasses and wine glasses that stand on your shelves are made. Such doors are made of thick tempered glass and covered with an impact-resistant film.

Of course, yes, the secrecy of such a door may be in question due to its transparency - however, this problem can be solved with tinting films or correct design

They are covered on top with acrylic, an amalgam mirror, and often simply varnished. Often such doors are covered with wallpaper or painted to match the color of the walls, which allows you to make them completely invisible:

  • Doors with hidden frames immediately puttied and matched directly to the interior, therefore they can be completely invisible in the wall - only a thin outline is visible. They are further divided into one-sided, invisible on one side, and double-sided, invisible on both sides. As a rule, the latter are used less often, because they take up more space (the partitions between rooms are from 75-100 mm) and are more difficult to install. And, as a rule, the door is hidden only from the entrance side.
  • Doors with hidden frames for finishing in production only primed, in fact, they are a canvas that needs to be decorated, painted and puttied independently.

Hidden doors are also divided according to the system of mechanisms:

  • Swing design. Most cheap option, is, in fact, an ordinary swing door, just less noticeable, less prominent from the wall. Only a handle, a lock, or a prominent thin outline can give it away.

  • Roto doors. A fairly expensive option, perhaps the most expensive of those presented, but also attracting the greatest interest. In general, rotary doors are rotating doors, whose mechanism is very similar to the mechanism of turnstiles in the subway. The canvas, in fact, simply rotates around its axis on a hinge. They are very convenient to open - you can simply push with your shoulder and carefully fall inside the room, which is undoubtedly very convenient with regard to hidden doors, because there are no handles required that could be noticeable. Most often, they are completely equipped magnetic lock which guarantees tightness.

Roto doors open in both directions and require half the space that a classic one would require. swing door. Silent.

  • Pendulum design. Average in price, based on hidden rotating mechanisms that allow the canvas to open in different directions. They are very similar in appearance to rotary doors, but there is one important difference - all swing doors are installed directly into canopies, which are mounted in the lower and top part doorway. Canopies perform the function of a spring axial mechanism, the axis of rotation of which allows the door leaf to rotate even in a circle. Awnings also come in different varieties – with and without closers. In the case of hidden doors, the option with closers is preferable, because closing occurs automatically due to the presence of a special spring mechanism.

It is swing doors that are most often installed in large supermarkets, and based on this, one can imagine how well this design will look in a hidden version. By the way, such doors are not particularly soundproof.

  • Sliding design, or cassette mechanism, door with cassette. It is distinguished by the presence of a special case for sliding doors and hidden hinges. A pencil case is a box that is mounted into the wall, and the door is hidden inside it, or rather, it slides inside the wall in which it is installed. Due to this, the door leaf does not swing back and forth, but calmly moves to the side. This allows you to save space, which is especially important in small rooms and apartments, as well as time, because they are installed as easily as possible. Such structures perfectly absorb noise and silently close and open; they can be either mechanical or electrical. They cost quite democratically.

Additionally, hidden doors are divided into single-leaf and multi-leaf. Multi-leaf doors can open in different directions, hide in one direction or in different directions, and have from two to infinitely large quantity flaps, while single-leaf ones rotate only in one direction and with only one leaf.

Hidden doors can be of any size – as high as the ceiling, as wide as an entire arch.

Advantages

An invisible door will be simply irreplaceable if you have a room to which you need to restrict access - for example, if it is your art studio, an office for privacy, or if you have a safe, hiding place or something similar. And you can always hide from prying eyes.

Such doors are also capable correctly zone the apartment and generally expand the space, allowing you to preserve it, which is why they are often used in small houses. Moreover, they guarantee safety for children - the likelihood that the baby will run into or hit it is minimal.

Of course, one cannot fail to mention the zest such a door brings to the interior. It immediately becomes extraordinary and creative, simplicity disappears - even if none of the guests notice any visible changes, you know that you have a little secret in your house. This is also a good reason to brag: your friends will be surprised to learn that behind the mirror there is a rest room, and by simply moving the closet shelf you can get to the balcony!

However, speaking about the advantages, one cannot help but touch upon the disadvantages, although they are minimal amount– in fact, there is only one drawback. The first and last is, of course, the price - installing an entire hidden structure will be more expensive than installing an ordinary average door, because this requires more skill, and the design itself is more expensive.

Installation features when installing an invisible door

When installing a hidden door, you need to take into account its design. For example, in the case of a hidden box, it is installed on hidden hinges in this very special box - a pencil case. Platbands are not needed for any design of a hidden door with a pencil case, because its base is an aluminum frame on which, parallel to the wall, those same hidden hinges are installed.

Regarding the pendulum door, we can say that the closer of the upper part and the closer of the lower part of the doorway should be located in different directions, because such doors open in a circle.

In order to do the usual interior door invisible, two methods can also be used:

  • The first one is quite radical. Associated in some cases with load-bearing structures the room itself. The idea is that a free space is made in the wall for the installation of this very hidden structure. The option is not the most convenient, as it requires a lot of hassle, skill, time, and can also eat up space in the corridor due to the fact that you will have to add an additional wall there.

  • The second one is simple and fast. It consists of mounting into a wall without cutting out the space of the mechanism in the box or without. Can be using doors as hidden pencil case, and with rotary doors, doors with pendulum mechanism, especially popular in the case of sliding doors. Also, immediately before deciding to install such a door, you should check the evenness and smoothness of the walls, floor and ceiling. In the case of hidden doors, this issue is fundamental, because if the smoothness is not ideal, then the doors may cling to the surface when opened.

Door decoration

If you want to turn even an invisible door into a noticeable piece of furniture, you can always use the usual methods of decoration - paste over it with eye-catching wallpaper (contrasting with the color of the wallpaper on the walls, with drawings or patterns, photo wallpaper), using furniture stapler drape it with fabric, choose to paint it or paste it with stickers (any stickers you want, or self-adhesive paper). Special mention should be made of the decoupage technique (cut parts are attached to the base), finishing with moldings and mosaics.

There is also a completely opposite trend regarding the decoration of hidden doors. They can be decorated so that they are completely invisible.

This can be fully achieved in several ways, the main goal of each of which is to merge with the environment:

  • Under the curtain. This is especially popular in rustic interiors country or Provence, as well as in the classics with its heavy voluminous curtains. It is absolutely not necessary to turn the door into a window for this - you can hang a picture on it, and hang beautiful flowing curtains on the sides. Or, what is especially welcome in classic interiors, place curtains or curtains flowing in waves along the entire wall, and somewhere there, under this fabric, will be the entrance to your secret room. It can also be placed under a screen.
  • Under the wall. Painted to match the wall, tiled or covered with the same wallpaper as on the walls, the door can completely blend into the interior, and you don’t even have to spend extra on any design items. The only thing you need to pay attention to is the handle. The classic volumetric one will be too noticeable, it is proposed to focus your attention on the same hidden or flat ones door handles that open doors with one click, or electrical mechanisms.

  • Under the mirror. In this case, the door is either sheathed with mirror material, or a separate mirror is simply hung on it - in full height or half of it, it depends on how much you want to hide.
  • Under the cabinet. In this case, opening the door may be a little more difficult because the cabinet itself has more weight than the curtain or mirror. Therefore, it is not recommended, firstly, to ask to install a large cabinet - after all, to hide the door, a cabinet of its size is enough; too wide or high will make it difficult to walk through and constantly knock on the walls. And, secondly, you should not load this closet with things, again, in order to open the door without unnecessary noise.

As a rule, such chests of drawers serve a purely concealing, one might say, decorative role, and are not particularly cluttered with things - although, of course, you can put a few books or office supplies in there.
